>Daniel then uncovers the ruse (by scattering ashes over the floor of the temple in the presence of the king after the priests have left) and shows that the "sacred" meal of Bel is actually consumed at night by the priests and their wives and children, who enter through a secret door when the temple's doors are sealed.

All those thousands of years of sacrifices. All those poor worshipers of God, bringing of their best flock and crops to God to worship, and for "penance" of their sins. Plundered. Christ dies on the cross, and the penance becomes shekels to the priests whose intercessory doctrine provided the poor with a path to forgiveness and heaven. Their lies have always been. Their doctrines, always false. Your salvation? A gift from God, usurped by deceit.

It's time to wake up.

Churches do need a way to operate, though. Part of a person's spiritual walk is to get involved in church, and find out who/where/what/why the money flows to. It's a lot more involving than most parishioners want, but it's necessary when choosing where to have your spirit fed. A church that is trying to keep that sort of info difficult to obtain should be a huge red flag.
