After two rounds of severe thunderstorms this weekend knocked out electricity to more than 800,000 across Michigan, some people won’t see their power restored until sometime Wednesday, utility officials said late Sunday.
As of Sunday afternoon, about 350,000 DTE customers remained without power, largely in the Southeast Michigan area. At one point in the immediate aftermath of Friday night and Saturday’s storms, nearly 600,000 DTE customers lost power.

ARMY SOLDIER SYSTEMS CENTER, Mass. — In the nearly four years since the Pentagon announced it was opening all combat jobs to women , at least 30 have earned the Army Ranger tab, two have graduated Marine infantry school and three have passed the grueling initial assessment phase for Green Beret training.
Their numbers are small, but their completion of some of the military's most arduous physical and mental courses has raised an intriguing scientific question: Who are these "hyperfit" women and what makes them so competitive?
Army medical researchers hope to uncover answers in a just-launched voluntary study.
"We're really interested in those elite women that are the first to make it through physically demanding training," said Holly McClung, a nutritional physiologist at the Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Massachusetts. "The real point of the study is to characterize this unique cohort of women that has made it through these traditionally male trainings."Mark Esper, President Donald Trump's nominee for defense secretary, said the study will be important to help understand fitness and perhaps reduce injury rates. He was serving as Army secretary when this study was first broached.
"My belief is it's grit — grit gets them through this," he said. "You have to have a certain level of athletic ability, but they take it to an extraordinary level. These women are tough."

SINGAPORE/TOKYO (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Monday on concerns that Iran’s seizure of a British tanker last week may lead to supply disruptions in the Middle East and after Libya reported the shut down of its largest oil field.
Brent crude futures climbed 85 cents, or 1.4%, at$63.32 a barrel by 0404 GMT. The international benchmark rose by $1 earlier.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 47 cents, or 0.8%, at $56.10 a barrel.
WTI fell over 7% and Brent fell more than 6% last week.
“Falling global demand and rising U.S. stockpiles have helped turn oil charts very bearish, but that may not last as tensions remain high in the Persian Gulf,” Edward Moya, senior market analyst at OANDA in New York, said in a note.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Friday they had captured a British-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf in response to Britain’s seizure of an Iranian tanker earlier this month.
The move has increased the fear of potential supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of Gulf, through which flows about one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies.

A Polish city celebrated its first-ever LGBTQ equality march on Saturday, but it struck a starkly different tone to the joyous and hedonistic affairs associated with pride parades.
Ringed by riot police, around 1,000 pride marchers walked defiantly through the streets of the northeastern city of Bialystok as thousands of nationalist football "ultra" fans, far-right groups and others threw flash bombs, rocks and glass bottles.
As counter-protesters yelled "God, honor and motherland" and "Bialystok free of perverts," the pride marchers chanted "Poland free of fascists" in return. Police said about 4,000 people were involved in demonstrations against the march.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A small group of demonstrators rallied in front of Mayor Ted Wheeler's home in Southwest Portland Saturday, calling for him to do more about violent protests in the city.
The group, Portland’s Liberation, is organized by Haley Adams. She says their group is related to Patriot Prayer, the group run by Joey Gibson.
“We want Ted Wheeler to address the actual crimes that are happening in Portland,” said Adams.
Adams said antifascist groups are to blame for the violence during protests. Saturday’s rally outside Wheeler’s home was in response to a clash at the end of June where at least two people were hurt, including conservative journalist, Andy Ngo.
“You’re seeing a bunch of people that are done with watching my people, and others around us, being brutally beaten,” said Adams.
Reggie Axtell is a member of Portland’s Liberation. When asked if there are two sides to the violence, he said, “We're not here for that. But we will defend ourselves, 100 percent to the fullest no matter what.”

Ukrainian President's Party Wins Snap Elections In Bid To Consolidate Power
Exit polls in Ukraine indicate that the party of the country's comedian-turned-president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has won a snap election aimed at strengthening its coalition only months after coming to power.
Zelensky's Servant of the People party is expected to garner about 41 percent of the vote and gain a majority in parliament, but it will not have enough seats to govern without allies, according to the polls released Sunday.
The pro-Russian Opposition Platform appeared to have placed second, with about 12 percent. The party of former President Petro Poroshenko, who Zelensky unseated in April, finished third, according to polls quoted by Reuters.
Prior to his election, Zelensky, 41, was known for his comic television portrayal of a schoolteacher who becomes president. However, his transition from fictional president to actual president hasn't been exactly made-for-television.
Zelensky has pledged to go after corruption but he has been frustrated by his inability to get the cooperation of the outgoing parliament.
