Russian Intelligence Agency Suffers 'Largest Data Breach in Its History'

According to BBC Russia, the Russian intelligence agency's computer systems have been penetrated by an outfit calling itself "0v1ru$" and 7.5 terabytes of data has been stolen. 0v1ru$ then passed the data along to the larger, well known group Digital Revolution who then disseminated the information to various media outlets.
BBC Russia also says no state secrets were exposed by the hack.
The hackers were able gain entry to FSB systems through a contractor, SyTech.

I think you might be right, but not just the other Cartels.
The authorities and Mexican Military, though still fully corrupt, have some marching orders, and may have pushed him out.
Even if it was because of the Mexican Military, that would still be because some other Cartel used the corrupt Military to get rid of him.
my opinion
there is some 'different' asymmetrical warfare tactics being applied south of the border right now. That implies that they are getting more than the normal half-ass DEA advisor support.
