“Consumers could get up to $20,000 in the Equifax settlement”
Omg I’m one of the people with the equifax hack. I can’t tell you how many times my info has been hacked, with Blue cross blue shield/anthem, with American Express, with a number of other companies.
Someone got my State and IRS data, and submitted two years in a row for a return, before I even filed. And because I pay in estimated quarterly taxes they got a large sum. The IRs doesn’t track it unless the amount is over $25,000. Whoever they were they got paid out two years in a row by the irs, even though we (my CPA and I) told them immediately the first year it was a fraudulent return.
The second year they knew what happened the year before, but the “lady” at the IRS says “we can’t stop it, the payment is in the system to go out.” Which seriously was such a fucking lazy system. I suspect their AI system is as retarded as the people, probably programmed by Jonathan Gruber!
It seems like every other month I’m getting free monitoring of my identity due to hacks. It would be great to get something out of the hassle. It took two years to shut down the identity theft!
