What do I know, I’m not a journalist (sarcasm)?. Play on words, since there really aren’t many real journalists left. Politics aside, we have a handful still willing to write in-depth, objective, well-researched pieces. On the right and left I can think of Sharyl Attkisson & Glen Greenwald as examples.
So the fake news of all stripes is reporting that President Trump hasn’t built a single mile of the promised wall. On its surface a campaign promise that certainly feels unfulfilled.
However, do any of these hit pieces give background into what private citizens are building? The work of Steve Bannon, Kris Kobach or the vet who crowdsourced the donations to help do it?
More importantly, do any of these articles offer insight into what legislative obstacles the President has had, whether from the Democrats, RHINOS or Federal Judges who, in this day and age, can issue injunctions that are so sweeping they surpass the chief executive operating under his proscribed authority as stated in the US Constitution? The legal argument in support of his authority can be found in multiple areas, whether to defend the territorial integrity of the country, or under war powers to prevent illegal non-citizens from entering, many of whom have been previously expelled for criminal conduct.
Here's where I will editorialize. If you think government, writ large, has the interest of the People at heart, by supporting unlimited immigration while major pockets of American citizens suffer financially, with mental illness and/or homelessness, it is my opinion you have been thoroughly brainwashed.
It is insane that we offer more care and benefits to people who are entering the country than those who were born here and are in need. Those born here can be black, brown, blue, green, yellow or white. It doesn’t matter to me.
What these policies should illustrate to the truly "woke" is the system has been too corrupted. Corrupted to the point where it no longer serves the common good. This argument should not be a controversial one, nor should it be permitted to be dismissed under labels of “xenophobia,” “racism” or “white national” mantras. Those are weak attempts to deflect. Are the concerns about human trafficking, dangers to migrants making the journey, cartels using the porous border to facilitate their activity not equally as valid as those who support people arriving to better their lives and/or escape oppressive environments? Are they mutually exclusive?
tl:dr – Before the proverbial frog boils (if it hasn’t already) people need to come together and insist that the citizens of this country are cared for before any other consideration is made. The abuse and neglect has gone on too long.
Had watched a great documentary on the efforts being taken now, but of course, can't find it. Found this short one, which seems well done (even if by a mainstream outlet).
