Anon, I was just reading this and watching imbedded vid about how the harsh natural catastrophes caused by planetary action (Jupiter) caused the ancients to practice orgies and human sacrifice to appease and try to control the gods, particularly the big daddy Baal also known as Jupiter and other names, depending on which religion and area you are talking about.
Also learned that the phrase 'high places' references 'human sacrifices' in the temples which were built up high so only the holiest of priest and priestesses were allowed to enter.
