BREAKING: South London residents EVACUATED as car crash leads to GAS LEAK

Emergency services are at the scene of a gas leak in London, forcing residents out of their homes in the freezing cold, it can be confirmed.

People have been forced to abandon their homes in the freezing cold after a car smashed into an energy plant and caused a gas leak in Croydon this evening.

The London Fire Brigade, Met Police and ambulance service are all in attendance.

The incident occurred near Wandle Park where a cordon is in place.

A rest centre has been set up at a local Sainsbury's for those evacuated.

Croydon Council tweeted: “The council is currently supporting the Croydon Metropolitain Police Service and London Fire Brigade who are dealing with an incident at Whitestone Way.
