Facebook Deals Massive Blow to Police Accountability Movement, Unpublishes Police the Police

Nine months ago, Facebook and Twitter — without warning or justification — deleted the pages of Free Thought Project and Police the Police which had over 5 million followers. During this purge, they also removed hundreds of other pages including massive police accountability groups like Cop Block, Filming Cops, and stifled the reach of Photography is Not a Crime. We reacted to the purge by starting new pages with the 2.0 appendix at the end of them. On Friday, nine months after they wiped these pages from the internet, Facebook struck again, and again, no reason was given.

The only statement given for the latest purge was the following: “It looks like recent activity on your Page doesn’t follow the Facebook Page Policies. If you think your Page was unpublished in error, you can appeal and we’ll take another look.”

The implications of such a move to censor those who expose the police state are horrifying. Before it was deleted last year, Police the Police was the largest police accountability group on the internet and now, despite making back a lot of that ground, it is no longer.

Iranian cargo ship sinks in Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan rescue services have evacuated the crew of an Iranian-flagged dry cargo ship as it was sinking near the Azeri port city of Lankaran, local authorities reported. The incident happened in the western Caspian Sea.

The 600-ton merchant vessel Shabahang sent a distress call on Friday, prompting the dispatch of two rescue helicopters and a patrol boat to the scene, Azerbaijan’s National Maritime Center reported.

All nine crew members were rescued as the ship was sinking.

The ‘Shabahang’ is a general cargo ship built in 1993, which has recently been hauling cargo between the Iranian port of Bandar-e Anzali and Russia’s Astrakhan, according to traffic records.

The incident happened amid close attention to Iran’s maritime traffic due to Britain’s detention of a tanker with Iranian oil and the apparently retaliatory detention of a British-flagged tanker by Iran. The Caspian Sea, however, is an inland body of water not connected to global sea routes. It’s surrounded from all sides by four nations: Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan.

Christianophobia? YouTube ad policy bans keyword ‘Christian’

Recently, a founder of a Christian veterans group attempted to upload a YouTube ad for his organization only to find that tech giant rejected his add, notifying him that the keyword “Christian” wasn’t acceptable under the site’s ad targeting policy.

Chad Robichaux, the founder of the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a charitable organization which assists war veterans to overcome their post-traumatic stress (PTSD), posted a screenshot of his encounter with YouTube on his twitter account.

“So one of the keywords to boost the ad was the word ‘Christian,’ which we use regularly. The ad was denied specifically because of the use of the word ‘Christian,’ Robichaux said.

During an interview with Faithwire, Robichaux said that “This is the first time we’d seen this.” Immediately after Robichaux’s tweet, YouTube also took to twitter in an attempt to explain the situation.

“We know that religious beliefs are personal, so we don’t allow advertisers to target users on the basis of religion,” wrote YouTube. “Beyond that, we don’t have policies against advertising that includes religious terms like ‘Christian,’ they added.

Robichaux responded by saying that the tech giant’s statement was patently false and deliberately misleading, stating that he had used the same keyword ‘for years’ without having any problems. He also claimed that there was no issue when he attempted to run the same exact ad, this time using the keyword “Muslim” instead of “Christian”.

“We’ve ran ads with the keyword ‘Christian’ for years. This year alone we had 150,000 impressions on that word in our ads,” Robichaux wrote, adding “We ran the exact same ad with the keyword ‘Muslim’ & it was approved but ‘Christian’ was not.”

However, after speaking with Google’s – the parent company of YouTube – help desk, Robichaux was told that the policy recently implemented.

Australia seeks to dissect Big Tech algorithms & impose ‘code of conduct’ to protect privacy

Australia has pledged to “lift the veil” on Big Tech’s use of citizens’ data, empowering a new branch of its antitrust authority to analyze how companies like Facebook and Google decide what ads and content to show users.

“They need to be held to account and their activities need to be more transparent,” Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg told reporters on Friday following the release of a report by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the country’s antitrust regulator.

The new digital platforms division would be able to peek behind the curtain at what are currently proprietary algorithms determining how tech platforms choose what content, including advertisements, their users see. It would have the power to compel tech platforms to provide information, including prices charged on advertising exchanges, and could rule on whether there was enough competition in the market.

The ACCC’s report also recommended stronger privacy laws with greater protection for personal information, including the ability to have one’s data destroyed or moved to another company and the adoption of a statutory tort for the most egregious privacy invasions. Its 23 recommendations also included protections for the press, as well as a code of conduct regulating how tech platforms can profit from user-generated content and how they evaluate complaints about inaccurate information being spread on their services. The ACCC’s reforms are open to public consultation for 12 weeks before the government decides how – or if – to implement them.

Migration Watch Launches Petition Against BoJo’s Illegal Migrant Amnesty Proposal

Migration Watch UK has launched an official petition against Boris Johnson’s proposal to give amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants.

Boris Johnson told the House of Commons on Thursday that he favours an illegal migrant amnesty, and that his government will be looking at “the economic advantages and disadvantages” of issuing one.

Following his first statement to the House of Commons as Prime Minister, the Tory leader was reminded that he had “courted popularity with pledging an amnesty for illegal immigrants” as Mayor of London by Labour’s Rupa Huq, who asked him if he would now be “a man of his word” and deliver on it.

Johnson readily conceded that “[on] amnesty on illegal immigrants, it is absolutely true that I have raised it several times” and that “it did not receive an ​overwhelming endorsement from the previous prime minister when I raised it once in Cabinet” as Foreign Secretary — but that it was back on the table now that he was in charge.

“I do think that our arrangements in theoretically being committed to the expulsion of perhaps half a million people who don’t have the correct papers and who may have been living and working here for many, many years without being involved in any criminal activity at all… I think that the legal position is anomalous,” he said — with “people who don’t have the correct papers” being a reference to people who have entered or stayed in the country illegally.

“[W]e need to look at our arrangements for people who have lived and worked here for a long time unable to enter the economy, unable to participate properly or pay taxes without documents,” he continued — casting his earlier suggestion that the people he was referring to hadn’t been involved in “criminal activity” into some doubt.

“We should look at it and, the truth is, the law already basically allows them an effective amnesty, that’s basically where we have settled now. But we should look at the economic advantages and disadvantages of going ahead with the policy that [Rupa Huq] described, and which I think she and I share,” he concluded, to some murmurs of discontent from the Tory backbenches.

Alp Mehmet, chairman of the Migration Watch UK think tank and pressure group, told Breitbart London that “an amnesty would simply reward illegality and encourage more illegal immigration in the future.”

He said that his petition, organised in anticipation of Johnson becoming Prime Minister and pushing for amnesty, “carries the clear signal that amnesties for illegal immigration don’t work, as has been seen in Spain and Italy.”

“Amnesties are also unpopular,” he added. “Over three-quarters of the public — 77 per cent — see illegal immigration as a serious problem.”

Migration Watch UK has previously published research warning that official estimates for the number of illegal migrants in the country may far below the real figure, and that the impact of social housing, for example, could be massive, with costs running into the billions of pounds.

Red Flag: Boris SCRAPS Pledge to Reduce Migration ‘From Hundreds of Thousands to Tens of Thousands’

Boris Johnson has confirmed he is scrapping the Conservative Party’s long-standing pledge to reduce net immigration “from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands” — a possible red flag for many supporters.

While European Union loyalists and left-liberals are bemoaning Boris Johnson’s new administration as the most “hard-right” in over thirty years — and many populist-leaning conservatives have pinned their hopes on him as “Britain Trump” — the former Mayor of London is politically and socially liberal on most issues, including immigration.

Indeed, far from being a hardliner on borders, the new prime minister has pushed policies such as amnesty for illegal immigrants for years, both as London mayor and Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, and though his pledge to introduce an “Australian-style points-based system” has been welcomed by many conservative voters, their inference that this system would be used to reduce immigration may prove to be baseless — given he has now officially dropped his predecessors’ pledge to bring the net influx below 100,000, as he is not interested in a “numbers game”.

“No-one believes more strongly than me in the benefits of migration to our country,” Johnson told MPs in his first appearance in the House of Commons as Prime Minister.

“But I am clear that our immigration system must change. For years, politicians have promised the public an Australian-style points-based system, and today I will actually deliver on those promises: I will ask the Migration Advisory Committee to conduct a review of that system as the first step in a radical rewriting of our immigration system,” he said.

“I am convinced that we can produce a system that the British public can have confidence in.”

The statement may have sounded positive enough to a public largely sceptical of mass migration — but the Prime Minister’s spokesman later clarified that, as groups like Migration Watch UK had feared, this points-based system could actually be used to increase rather than reduce overall migration flows.

“His view is that we need to introduce an Australian points-based system that allows us to take back control of our borders,” the spokesman said.

“He is determined to deliver it, which is why he has commissioned MAC (the Migration Advisory Committee) to carry out the work to get that system.

“He said in the campaign he wasn’t interested in a numbers game.”

Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini has challenged France to open up its ports, as ongoing tensions over mass migration between the two countries have once again flared.

The populist interior minister reacted to comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron who slammed Salvini for not attending a conference on migration earlier this week in Paris, Il Giornale reports.

Referring to a migration conference in Helsinki earlier this month, Salvini said: “Who are you? We’re not your employees or your waiters. We went to the official meeting in Helsinki where all of us ministers were there.”

“Italy will not be your refugee camp … There is the port of Marseille, don’t come and put pressure on us. If you expect us to sign a document where ships arrive in Italy, you are wrong. Italians are no longer going to be anyone’s slaves,” Salvini added.

Salvini’s firebrand rhetoric comes after Macron announced earlier in the week that 14 member states of the European Union had agreed to a Franco-German proposal to send incoming migrants to various countries in what was a labelled a “solidarity mechanism”.

The new push for a mechanism to distribute migrants comes as migrant transport NGOs have resumed activities in the Mediterranean despite the closed ports policy enacted by the Italian populist coalition.

The situation has led to Sea Watch captain Carola Rackete being arrested after she forced her way through the Italian blockade after waiting for two weeks with dozens of migrants aboard her vessel.

Other NGOs have also resumed their activities off the coast of Libya in the search and rescue (SAR) zone, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF) which announced their new mission with their new ship, the Ocean Viking, would begin later in the month.

This is not the first time Salvini and the French president have clashed, with Macron calling himself the “chief adversary” of Salvini and other populists in Europe, while Salvini has labelled the French leader a “hypocrite”.

Earlier this week, a photo of a naked woman disrobing in front of three young boys at an art museum went viral on social media. The photo was taken during an interactive art exhibit three weeks ago in Estonia, according to the video apparently posted by the feminist artist herself, Mare Tralla.

On Vimeo, there is video of the full interactive exhibit (called “No 'But' Can Be Used as an Excuse for Sexism!”), which lasts about eight and a half minutes. In front of an audience, Tralla strips naked, save for a pair of yellow and black sandals, and proceeds to walk into another room to cover up “sexist” images from famed Estonian artist Marko Mäetamm.

An account under Tralla’s name posted the following description of the video:

LDS Church leaders didn't report man who confessed to making child porn, docs say

A Utah man turned himself into law enforcement for viewing, making and distributing child pornography after his local church leaders failed to report it after his confession, court documents state.

Bejamin Alyk contacted the Davis County Attorney's Office in 2018. He confessed to making and distributing child pornography when he was a teenager, according to documents obtained by Truth and Transparency Foundation, a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to promoting transparency within religious institutions.

Alyk said he viewed, made and distributed child pornography from the time he was 14 to 17. He also said he confessed to local leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on at least two separate occasions. One time was eight months before he turned himself in. The leaders didn't report the information to law enforcement, court documents obtained by 2News state.

Alyk said he came across a website where people could share inappropriate images. A year or so later, the website required him to share new child porn in order to get it in return, Ryan McKnight with TTF reported.

Documents state Alyk would take videos of his cousins, ages 4 and 6, going to the bathroom with the door open. He said he used these videos to trade for child porn online. Alyk told investigators he deleted the videos after distributing them.

For Christmas, Alyk received a Gopro camera, which he would remotely control from an app on his phone. He told police he set the camera under the closet door in the bathroom to capture videos of children going to the bathroom, court document state. The children were all between the ages of 4 and 6, and attended his parents' daycare, which is no longer operated at their residence.

US judge cuts Monsanto cancer victims’ award from $2 billion to $86 million

A California judge on Thursday reduced a jury’s $2 billion punitive damages award for a couple who blamed Monsanto’s weed killer Roundup for their cancer. The award was excessive and unconstitutional, the judge ruled.

In the United States court, the jury is usually responsible for determining the amount of damages to award in a personal injury case. However, many states have laws that limit the amount of damages so that even if a jury awards excessive damages, it can be reduced by a higher court.

The plaintiffs, Alva and Alberta Pilliod, will receive around $17 million in compensation and $69 million in punitive damages, said Superior Court Judge Winifred Smith. That is down from $55 million and $2 billion, respectively.

German drug company Bayer, which bought Monsanto last year for $63 billion, called the decision a step in the right direction, but added that it would file an appeal.

“We continue to believe that the verdict and damage awards are not supported by the evidence at trial and conflict with the extensive body of reliable science and conclusions of leading health regulators worldwide that confirms glyphosate-based herbicides can be used safely and that glyphosate is not carcinogenic,” Bayer said in a statement.

Plaintiffs claim Roundup causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and that Monsanto for decades tried to influence scientists and regulators to bury cancer evidence.

According to Judge Smith, in the case of the Pilliods, “there was clear and convincing evidence that Monsanto made efforts to impede, discourage, or distort scientific inquiry and the resulting science.”

Bayer is facing more than 13,000 US lawsuits on the glyphosate-based product’s potential health risks but the company denies those allegations.

The drug company has lost three consecutive cases in California courts. However, last week another Californian cancer victim’s punitive damages award was also slashed because it “went beyond constitutional limits set by the US Supreme Court.”

In April, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reaffirmed that the active ingredient found in Roundup is safe.

In fact, a separate report that was put out by the National Center for Health Statistics in January revealed that our fertility rate has now fallen below replacement level…

In 2017, the total fertility rate for the United States continued to dip below what’s needed for the population to replace itself, according to a separate report published by the National Center for Health Statistics in January.

In other words, not factoring in immigration, our population would actually start shrinking if our fertility rate continued to stay at the current level.
