An unsanctioned protest organized by the Russian opposition has ended in clashes between the police and demonstrators, who pelted officers with stones. Tensions in the city center led to hundreds of arrests.
A standoff quickly escalated when protesters, who had sought to stage a rally outside the Moscow mayor’s office, defied police orders to disperse. On Tverskaya Street, where the office is located, law enforcement personnel were assaulted with pepper spray.
“The gas was sprayed from above, probably from one of the balconies of a nearby building,” a police source told TASS. The officers even had to wear gasmasks for a period of time, the Russian media reported.

Hezbollah Leader Says Israel Seeks To Gain Control Of Beirut Port
Hezbollah Secretary General Hasan Nasrallah denied that the Lebanese group is smuggling weapons through Beirut Port as Israeli officials claimed recently.
During a speech on the 31rst anniversary of Jihad al-Binaa establishment on July 26, Nasrallah said that these false Israeli claims are aimed at challenging Lebanon’s control of the port.
“I deny the Israeli claim that Hezbollah is using Beirut Port to smuggle weapons, this [claim] is aimed at imposing a guardianship on the port, the airport and the border so they could achieve what they failed to do in July war [of 2006],” the Lebanese leader said.
Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. and the Israeli military had accused Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of smuggling weapons from Iran to Lebanon through several routes, including Beirut Port.
Nasrallah was not the first to reject the Israeli claims. Earlier, a Lebanese official told the al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper that these claims are baseless, noting that U.N. forces in Lebanon have the needed authority to inspect any vessel in the country’s water.

Chlorpyrifos: Playing Pesticide Politics with Children’s Health
Chlorpyrifos—described by some as “the most dangerous pesticide you’ve never heard of”—is an insect-killing organophosphate. Organophosphates trace their roots back to Nazi-era IG Farben nerve gases; contemporary scientists still describe the compounds as “junior-strength nerve agents” that have a mechanism of action comparable to sarin. Dow Chemical—the company that helped bring the world mustard gas during World War I and napalm and Agent Orange during the Vietnam war—is the manufacturer of chlorpyrifos-containing insecticides.
In the U.S., the agriculture industry applies millions of pounds of chlorpyrifos annually to at least 50 major food crops. Farms around the world also use the chemical “heavily and ubiquitously.” Chlorpyrifos-sprayed crops include some of the foods most likely to be consumed by children, such as corn, soy, apples, oranges, strawberries and nuts. Researchers have linked both prenatal and postnatal chlorpyrifos exposure to brain damage even at the lowest detectable doses. They also note that exposure “is not limited to agricultural environments, as [organophosphates] are ubiquitous in food, dust, and air”—although adults and children who eat an organic diet display significantly reduced levels.
Flagging exposure to chlorpyrifos and other organophosphates as a risk factor for autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other developmental problems—including higher-order cognitive deficits, attention deficits, lower IQ scores and impaired working memory—concerned scientists have been sounding the alarm for quite some time. Yet, despite the substantial body of evidence documenting adverse effects not just on human health but also on wildlife and the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proclaimed on July 18 that it will take no action other than to “continue to review the safety of chlorpyrifos.”

There was no tsunami warning issued yet.
Earthquakes with magnitudes above 6.0 Richter scale are considered to be strong earthquakes, which can deal damage to a moderate number of structures in populated areas. It is usually felt in up to hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre.

Papadopoulos flew from Israel to the Greek island of Mykonos and gave the stack of cash to one of his lawyers because he was suspicious that it came from a spy.
On July 27, Papadopoulos then flew back to the US from his travels to Israel and Greece and was arrested by federal agents as soon as he landed at Dulles International Airport.
Papadopoulos spent 11 nights in jail after he was convicted of ‘making a false statement to the feds.’
“Congressman Nunes gets it. The $10,000 is going to be the iceberg that sinks this titanic,” Papadopoulos said this week.
