Off topic question but perhaps someone knows. What would happen to a city if it rejected/resisted a states sanctuary laws? Given that sanctuary laws violate federal law and the state cannot override federal law, can city council members or supervisors of a county resist state attempts to institute such things as a push for massive affordable housing, homeless camps, etc?
I know someone running for city council and they have been campaigning hard and have a shit load of support/will likely win and we have been discussing how to stop a major city near by us from forcing agendas down our city and forcing state agenda when it violates federal law. Since the DOJ is not prosecuting these state leaders are we on our own out in states like OR, CA, etc or do we have any federal help should the state mess with us? This is a big deal and is preventing good people from running for office in states like these. If we had protection by the federal government we would be much more vocal about kicking those socialist narratives out but as it stands we simply cannot take on the state and expect to be safe or win in court since the federal government seems to have abandoned us.
