Fear behind fury: As DNI, Ratcliffe could expose FISA files that Russiagaters hope stay buried

The prospect of John Ratcliffe as the new US director of national intelligence has Democrats and the media alarmed far more so than usual, perhaps because as DNI he could expose things they would prefer to stay hidden.

US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would nominate Congressman Ratcliffe (R-Texas) to head the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), to replace Daniel Coats after he leaves on August 15. Ratcliffe has accepted Trump’s nomination, and now faces the Senate confirmation process.

There is some confusion as to who will serve as acting director; Trump said he will appoint someone “soon” but critics say the 2004 law establishing the office specifically says the principal deputy – in this case, CIA veteran Sue Gordon – shall be in charge.

It has become the new normal that every Trump nomination is met by howls of outrage from both Democrats and the mainstream media. They seem to be alarmed by Ratcliffe far more than usual, however. Amazingly, despite the complete catastrophe that ‘Russiagate’ has turned into for the Democrats, liberal pundits are once again arguing that this somehow helps Moscow. Here’s Atlantic writer Adam Serwer claiming Coats is being replaced because he was trying to “prevent foreign attacks on American elections.”

CNN analyst Juliette Kayyem argued along the same lines, claiming that Trump’s goal is to “stop any attempts to thwart Russian influence in 2020.”

BoJo adviser lays down strict ‘no leaks’ policy — but the warning is instantly leaked to media

Boris Johnson’s top adviser Dominic Cummings has warned ministerial aides that they will be fired if any cabinet business is leaked to the press — but rather ironically, the warning itself was immediately leaked to the Telegraph.

Dominic Cummings told aides that he had a “one strike policy” on government leaks and “if you leak, you are gone,” according to one insider who relayed the juicy details of the meeting to the newspaper.

But the PM’s new adviser reportedly went even further, threatening that if any of the advisers tried to take him to an employment tribunal, “you will be dead to me.”

Perhaps aware of the irony of the latest leaks, Cummings did not return a request for comment to the Telegraph. A Downing Street source astutely commented, however, that it “sounds like someone is breaking the one strike policy.”

“There has been a very clear message to special advisers that our focus is about delivering not about swanning around,” the person told the newspaper.

Cummings is a hardline Brexiteer and one of the masterminds of the 2016 Vote Leave campaign, who supports Johnson’s push for Britain to exit the European Union in October, even in a ‘no deal’ situation.

Cummings also reportedly told aides to prepare an emergency budget for the week following the Conservative Party conference in October ahead of the UK’s departure from the EU set for October 31. One source told the paper that the annual Tory gathering will be like a “no deal rally.”

Johnson’s predecessor Theresa May was plagued by leaks from her government. In May, former Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson was fired after reportedly leaking details of Chinese tech firm Huawei’s involvement with the development of Britain’s 5G network.

Tulsi Gabbard Releases Video Calling for Everyone Across the Political Spectrum to Unite and Fight Big Tech’s Censorship

Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has released a new video calling for Americans from both sides of the aisle to unite and fight political censorship by the Big Tech monopolies.

Rep. Gabbard recently filed a $50 million lawsuit against Google for censoring her campaign’s ability to buy ads following the first Democratic primary debate when she was the most searched candidate.

“Join me in this fight to end big tech monopolies power to censor & undermine Americans’ freedom of speech—because whether we are progressives or conservatives, left or right, if we do not stand united to protect our freedoms, we all lose,” Rep. Gabbard tweeted.

In the powerful video, Rep. Gabbard called the ability of tech companies to censor non-violent political speech a “direct threat to our democracy.”

“Over the last two decades, technology has completely revolutionized how we as a society communicate. An enormous amount of public discourse now happens over the internet, where a very select handful of corporations yield tremendous power over your access to information,” Rep. Gabbard explained.

Referring to Google and Facebook, Rep. Gabbard pointed out that these two companies control the vast majority of internet searches.

“These two technology conglomerates, without any oversight, can decide who and what is seen or heard. They have banned voices, who, while controversial and maybe even distasteful, have not incited violence or threatened others,” Rep. Gabbard continued. “Their sole offense was expressing a view that these corporations deemed unacceptable.”

Rep. Gabbard concluded the video by calling on people from the left and right to unite to fight for the freedom of speech before we “all lose.”

Last week, Rep. Gabbard announced that she is suing Google for their censorship.

Google had suspended the campaign’s advertising account for six hours from June 27th into June 28, immediately following the debate while searches for her were trending.

More Than 80,000 Earthquakes Have Hit California Since July 4th, And The Aftershocks Are Headed “Toward The Garlock Fault”

The recent seismic activity in the state of California has taken a strange turn. According to the Los Angeles Times, there have been more than 80,000 earthquakes in the state since July 4th, and most of those quakes were aftershocks of the two very large events that hit the Ridgecrest area early in the month.

Over the past couple of weeks, however, a very unusual pattern has begun to emerge. We have started to see aftershocks creep toward two of the largest fault lines in southern California, and this is making seismologists very nervous. The fact that we are seeing aftershocks “approaching the Owens Valley fault” is definitely alarming, but of far more concern is the fact that the Ridgecrest aftershocks are also headed “toward the Garlock fault”. The following comes from a local California news source…

According to a Los Angeles Times article , aftershocks of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake near Ridgecrest have been creeping into areas close to two major earthquake faults which is concerning for some seismologists on whether it could trigger another huge temblor.

“Some aftershocks have rumbled northwest of the Searles Valley earthquake, approaching the Owens Valley fault. That fault triggered an earthquake of perhaps magnitude 7.8 or 7.9 in 1872, one of the largest in California’s modern record,” the article explains. “The Ridgecrest aftershocks have also headed southeast toward the Garlock fault, a lesser-known fault capable of producing an earthquake of magnitude 8 or more. The fault along the northern edge of the Mojave Desert can send shaking south and west into Bakersfield and Ventura and Los Angeles counties.”

In the end, this could turn out to be nothing, but there are a couple of reasons why we want to keep a very close eye on the Garlock fault.

First of all, the Garlock fault is the second largest fault line in the entire state of California, and it is a major threat to southern California.

Secondly, the Garlock fault runs directly into the San Andreas fault, and many believe that a major quake along one could potentially trigger a major quake along the other.

If you are not familiar with the Garlock fault, the following is some basic information from Wikipedia…

The Garlock Fault marks the northern boundary of the area known as the Mojave Block, as well as the southern ends of the Sierra Nevada and the valleys of the westernmost Basin and Range province. Stretching for 250 kilometers (160 mi), it is the second-longest fault in California and one of the most prominent geological features in the southern part of the state.

The Garlock Fault runs from a junction with the San Andreas Fault in the Antelope Valley, eastward to a junction with the Death Valley Fault Zone in the eastern Mojave Desert. It is named after the historic mining town of Garlock, founded in 1894 by Eugene Garlock and now a ghost town.

So exactly what would a major quake along the Garlock fault look like?

Italian Police Investigate Image of Blindfolded US Murder Suspect (Photo)

A photograph of an American teenager being illegally blindfolded while handcuffed after his arrest following the killing of a police officer in Rome, Italy, has been widely shared by news sources.

Gabriel Christian Natale-Hjorth, 18, was blindfolded "for a very few minutes” on Friday before he was interrogated in a police station about the murder of Italian military police officer Mario Cerciello Rega, Rome Provincial Commander Francesco Gargaro told AP.

In the photo, Natale-Hjorth can be seen blindfolded at a police station with his head bowed.

“The general command of the [military police] Carabinieri disassociate themselves from the release and disclosure of photos of persons arrested for the murder of [officer] Mario Cerciello Rega,” the Carabinieri, or the national gendarmerie of Italy, said in a Saturday statement obtained by Reuters.

“The Carabinieri command in Rome is carrying out with extreme urgency an investigation to identify who is responsible.”

Rome’s prosecutor general Giovanni Salvi has also started a disciplinary inquiry in order to determine who decided to blindfold and handcuff the suspect.

According to the New York Times, Natale-Hjorth, along with 19-year-old American teenager Finnegan Lee Elder, both from San Francisco, California, admitted to stabbing Cerciello Rega on Friday morning after the officer tried to recover a backpack the two teens had stolen.

The two teens were arrested in a hotel room in Rome as they were preparing to depart the country, the Carabinieri reported.

Police officers found a “knife of considerable size” and clothes the men had worn during the murder placed behind a panel in the hotel room ceiling, the New York Times reported, citing a statement obtained from the Carabinieri press office.

According to a military police spokesperson, the Americans had asked an unidentified Italian man where they could buy drugs. The man directed them to a seller, and the two teens bought drugs from that individual. However, the products weren’t “real drugs,” according to the teens, and so they attempted to locate the seller again. When they weren’t successful, they sought out the first Italian man who had directed them to the seller and stole his backpack, which contained his phone, police said. When the man called his phone in an effort to locate his belongings, the teens allegedly requested “100 euros and a gram of cocaine.”

The teens made an appointment with the owner of the backpack to meet near the hotel where they were staying. However, instead of showing up at the designated location, two officers went to the meeting instead, after the victim of the theft notified the Carabinieri of the situation.

During the meeting between the teens and the police officers, Elder stabbed Cerciello Rega eight times, police said. It is unclear if Natale-Hjorth is also accused of stabbing the officer.

Following the incident, Elder’s family released a statement, saying, “We are shocked and dismayed at the events that have been reported.”

“We write as a family to express our deepest condolences to the grieving family and community that loved Brigadier Cerciello Rega.”

Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, however, disregarded the controversy over blindfolding Elder. “To those who complain about the blindfolding of a person arrested, I remind them that the only victim to cry for is a … Carabiniere … who died while doing his job, killed by people who, if guilty, deserve spending their life in prison,” Salvini tweeted Sunday.
