Gilroy Police Chief responds to department sex scandal aug 2018
Gilroy's police chief at the time was Denise Turner.
Some of the most shocking claims made in the lawsuit are:
-
At police parties, "GPD employees would throw their keys in a bowl, and whoever pulled a key, had sex with the person who owned the key."
-
An officer's wife, who also worked for GPD, bragged about her pierced genitalia at a pool party until she displayed her piercing. There were children present, and the party had been organized as an annual event to honor the memory of Officer Ray Hernandez.
-
Two police officers "had sexual intercourse with members of the Gilroy Explorers, comprised of youth ranging in age from 14-21. When their conduct came to light, Officer Guerin was demoted, while Contreras was allowed to resign." The lawsuit names the two officers as Officer Geoff Guerin and Officer Jesus Contreras.
-Police Communications Supervisor Steve Ynzunza made unwanted sexual advances at Harrell while inviting her over to his house to drink margaritas. "Ynzunza engaged in sexual activity with other GPD officers and employees, and attempted to have sex with men by luring them to his house with the promise of 'wild' and 'crazy' women. When women did not show up, Ynzunza would tell male guests, 'Let's get naked while we wait.'"
-
A male police officer groped a female dispatcher's breasts in the Communications Center after she invited him to do so.
One officer who is named several times in the lawsuit is Gilroy Police Officer Royce Heath. Heath is a former Salinas Police Department officer.
