Interesting news.

I've read that cherrubim refer to the man-headed lions, while the chubby baby with wings is actually a "putti." I think there was a biblical story where they appear together and so they get conflated. A bit confusing, so I might not have it entirely right.

The (flying) lion is interesting because it appears so much in Cabal symbolism.

And the griffin seems to be connected to the flying lion mythology if we keep in mind that the Ancient Egyptian sun-god Ra was depicted as having both a lion's head and an eagle's head. Then in Biblical mythology, the cherubim has FOUR faces, one is a lion's, one is a bull's, one is an eagle's and one is a man's, incorporating all the versions of the myth from the Ancient Mystery Religion.
