Pakistan jet crash: at least 18 dead as aircraft ploughs into homes

At least 18 people were killed and scores were injured when a Pakistani military aircraft crashed into a residential area near the city of Rawalpindi this morning.

The small plane was on a routine training flight when it ploughed into homes as it approached a military airport at about 2am local time. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the King Air 350 turboprop make a sudden dive, with some claiming that the aircraft was on fire before it hit the ground.

Pictures from the scene showed several houses in the village of Mora Kalu reduced to rubble and wreckage from the plane scattered over a wide area.
