Oldanon grew up in a small coal mining town. Had uncles tell me how President Roosevelt gave them a job. Low pay, but they left home and lived in camps, room & board. One did it for a year, others for more.

They built things that still stand today. The came home with every penny they earned and gave to the family. Then, John Lewis unionized the coal mines. Dad left school after 8th grade (skipped a year in grade school) to work in the mines. Asked him about the union. All he said is after the union came in, he never loaded one car of dirty coal.
