Italy has been going through similar upheaval as the US

New prime minister is Conte

One of his first actions was to fire the heads of all their intelligence agencies

Am not as familiar as I should be with Italian politics, but Salvini is also a key figure.

Thanks much for the summary.

Have been a few times, but never further south than Positano.

All of it always boils down to money.

If you haven't visited Merano before, give it a try. Was an old spa town in the 1800s, but a gorgeous and relaxing spot to visit today. Very unique microclimate in Meranoโ€“ there are palm trees all through town, yet the snow covered Alps are so nearby. It feels like Shangri-La, but with nice old bed & breakfasts. I believe it was part of Austria-Hungary before WWI.

Of course, enjoy your trip.

Excellent hiking almost anywhere in northern Italy.

I have sung with a choir in the Duomo in Merano and have very fond memories of the visit there. The passegiata along the river is incredibly beautiful.
