If you haven't visited Merano before, give it a try. Was an old spa town in the 1800s, but a gorgeous and relaxing spot to visit today. Very unique microclimate in Merano– there are palm trees all through town, yet the snow covered Alps are so nearby. It feels like Shangri-La, but with nice old bed & breakfasts. I believe it was part of Austria-Hungary before WWI.

I have sung with a choir in the Duomo in Merano and have very fond memories of the visit there. The passegiata along the river is incredibly beautiful.
