Stickers promoting a white supremacist group were founded throughout the center of a Kentucky town over the weekend.
Police in the town of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, said on Tuesday they were in the process of having public works employees remove the stickers that were put up by the group Patriot Front, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
At least a dozen stickers promoting the group were found on lampposts throughout the center of town by a resident, who notified the police and began attempting to remove the stickers himself.
"I was not expecting to see that," Bret Olson told the news outlet. "I tore it down."
At least a few of the stickers appear to feature an image of the United States with the message, “Not Stolen, Conquered.”
Fort Thomas Police Sgt. William Hunt said Tuesday that they hope it was an isolated incident but that they will be keeping an eye out to make sure it does not get repeated.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit group that tracks hate groups and extremists, identifies the Patriot Front as a white nationalist hate group that split from Vanguard America after the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017.
The Enquirer notes the stickers appeared shortly after Southern Ohio native Alex Fields was sentenced to life in prison for killing Heather Heyer when he drove his car through a crowd of demonstrators in Charlottesville.

Norquist is confirmed as the 34th deputy defense secretary
So much is happening TODAY and in the US alone.
WASHINGTON — David Norquist was confirmed late Tuesday as the 34th deputy defense secretary by voice vote of the full Senate, as the upper chamber of Congress continues its spree of Defense Department appointments to fill several key leadership vacancies at the Pentagon.
Norquist has been performing the duties of deputy defense secretary since January when his predecessor, Patrick Shanahan, became the acting defense secretary. Norquist also has been serving as the Pentagon’s chief financial officer since 2017. Shanahan resigned in June. After Defense Secretary Mark Esper was sworn in last week, he delegated the duties of deputy secretary to Navy Secretary Richard Spencer while Norquist went through the confirmation process.
With Norquist’s confirmation secured, his deputy, Elaine McCusker, is expected to assume the role of acting comptroller until President Donald Trump nominates someone for the position.
Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee voiced support during a hearing last week of Norquist’s nomination and confirmation, including Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., chairman of the committee, who said he might be the wrong person to be chairman of the hearing because he had already decided to support Norquist.
“In fact, I remember telling the president a long time ago it doesn’t matter who ends up being secretary of defense, so long as you have Norquist in there to help,” he said.

The Pentagon’s top two jobs are finally filled
Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist took his oath on Wednesday afternoon, according to a Pentagon release, following his confirmation by the Senate on Tuesday evening.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper was sworn in on July 23, making him the first official confirmed in that role since former Defense Secretary James Mattis resigned in December.
Esper, previously the Army secretary, ascended to the acting defense secretary role in late June, then returned to the Army for a week in July following his nomination. The Senate voted 90-8 to confirm him.
With the top two civilian officials at the Pentagon now in place, the services are waiting on a vote to confirm the next vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, now head of U.S. Strategic Command, appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday.
If confirmed, he will join Army Gen. Mark Milley, who was confirmed as the chairman in an 89-1 Senate vote on Thursday, in the military’s top uniformed jobs.

Jeffrey Epstein appeared in court for first time after jail incident
Jeffrey Epstein, the multimillionaire accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls, appeared in public for the first time Wednesday since having been found last week in his jail cell with marks on his neck.
Attending a conference in his case in Manhattan federal court, Epstein showed no visible signs of injury as he learned from prosecutors that his trial on federal sex trafficking charges will likely take between four and six weeks next year.
US District Court Judge Richard Berman didn't set a tentative trial date, as prosecutors and defense counsel couldn't agree on whether the proceedings should be set for June 2020, as prosecutors requested, or September 2020, as Epstein's lawyers wanted.
Assistant US Attorney Alison Moe told the court that there is a "public interest in bringing this case to trial as swiftly as manageable."
Epstein is charged with one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. Prosecutors have accused him of operating a sex trafficking ring in which he both paid underage girls to have sex with them and paid some of them to recruit other victims.
In court Wednesday, Epstein didn't appear fazed. His hair was brushed to the side, and at one point during the proceedings he smiled after a point of confusion between the judge and one of his attorneys.
The judge set the next court appearance in the case for oral arguments on October 28.
