I thought that the hex grille was a white retroreflector from the thumbnail. Someone should do one of these with reflectors. Maybe I will if I don't get beat to it.
Seems like they want the DS in a position where they know there is no escape, as the highest goal. More than how long it takes, they just want these guys trapped. I can understand this, having been there myself before Trump.
