Anon, the fever shouts more to me than the severe pain. spouse-anon went through something similar a few years back, luckily I was aware of this article:

And insisted on intensive intravenous antibiotics, 3 days .. by the 4th day spouse was walking and smiling. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
