Men of my family have served and died in every war in our nation’s history.
My generation chose not to, precisely because we didn’t think the leadership would spend our blood in the pursuit of our nation’s ideals. We heard plenty from our surviving fathers & uncles.
They were proud of their service, as are we, their children, but they were aware that the country was taking a dark turn.
Without their wisdom, purchased in blood, pain, & trauma. We, their sons may have not survived to fight this current battle.
If you do not live to pass on your knowledge to the next generation, then everything you & your brothers in arms endured & died for, was for nothing.
You may not feel like a hero, but I goddamn promise you, that those who inherit the lessons that only you can teach will certainly call you one.
We move it forward one yard at a time. As a team.
