Re: Twelve Tribes and sh
Personal experience in Spain. Was walking Pilgrimage and was invited to stay with them outside of San Sebastian on northern coast. House was on the Bay of Biscay, easy access to the ocean.
They were all very nice and welcoming, but weren't in the guidebook, even though they were set up as a hostel. They said it was because Spanish law didn't allow them to be advertised as an alburge (pilgrim hostel) because they were located on Federal forest land.
There was a Yellow Deli in San Sebastian, and the house had a commercial kitchen. There were a few other pilgrims there. It would be really easy to invite pilgrims in who didn't have any connections. The house was literally on the Bay.
The people there were mostly from the US. Tennessee, I think. One from Israel. Another from I think Germany. But they spoke English. To me at the time it was a beautiful night, full of God's grace. I knew I was protected by Him. But I wonder how many are not.
The woman who talked to me the most, seemed skittish, and alluded to how they have been called a cult in the US and she seemed a little wary of what I may have heard about them. (I had never heard of them).
I didn't see any children while I was there, but knew they had them. (It was late when I arrived and I left very early the next morning).
But reading anon's post from last bread really made me think about their location on the water and the restaurant in town (San Sebastian) which is a major tourist town.
