Stocks, Yuan, Bond Yields Crash As Trump Unleashes New China Tariffs

Just as investors thought it was safe to buy-the f**king-dip after Powell's plunge, President Trump steals the jam out of their donut by announcing new China tariffs…

"… on September 1st, putting a small additional Tariff of 10% on the remaining 300 Billion Dollars of goods and products coming from China into our Country "

In a series of tweets, Trump laid out the state of the China trade deal… in a word - terrible…

Our representatives have just returned from China where they had constructive talks having to do with a future Trade Deal. We thought we had a deal with China three months ago, but sadly, China decided to re-negotiate the deal prior to signing. More recently, China agreed to…

…buy agricultural product from the U.S. in large quantities, but did not do so. Additionally, my friend President Xi said that he would stop the sale of Fentanyl to the United States – this never happened, and many Americans continue to die! Trade talks are continuing, and…

…during the talks the U.S. will start, on September 1st, putting a small additional Tariff of 10% on the remaining 300 Billion Dollars of goods and products coming from China into our Country. This does not include the 250 Billion Dollars already Tariffed at 25%…

…We look forward to continuing our positive dialogue with China on a comprehensive Trade Deal, and feel that the future between our two countries will be a very bright one!

And just like that - gains were gone…

China sees new era of ‘shared destiny’ with US no longer in the driving seat

The release of China’s white paper on defense demonstrates to the world an increasingly confident and more assertive China, actively preparing for major shifts on a predominantly US-led global chessboard.

As well as the US, other crucial players on the world stage also have their eyes on China’s military posture.

One such country is India. Cutting straight to the chase, the white paper’s most obvious and arguably most relevant reference to India is a sentence that states the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will “take effective measures to create favourable conditions for the peaceful resolution of the Donglang (Doklam) standoff.”

For those with difficulty recalling, in August 2017 India and China engaged in a brief skirmish in Doklam, on the Indo-Tibetan border. While seriously underreported by the mainstream media, the two nations continue to maintain a tense border standoff, with troops on both sides stationed just meters apart. However, it should be noted that the skirmishes in 2017 were effectively ended when both parties disengaged by mutual agreement.

The recently published white paper also confirmed the deployment of a Type 15 tank, much lighter than tanks deployed in China’s northern and western regions and purpose-built for mountain warfare. As the paper also makes numerous references to the mobilization and mobility of the PLA, such a low-weight Chinese tank may help in this regard. Deployment of this tank on the Sino-Indian border is almost certainly something New Delhi will become increasingly concerned at.

Comey Avoids DOJ Prosecution On Memo Leak; FISA Abuse Still On The Table

Former FBI Director James Comey will avoid prosecution after illegally leaking personal memos in the hopes of instigating the special counsel's investigation into the 2016 US election, as reported yesterday by The Hill's John Solomon and confirmed today by Fox News.

According to Solomon, DOJ Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz referred Comey for possible prosecution under laws governing the handling of classified information, however Attorney General William Barr has declined to prosecute - as the DOJ does not believe they have enough evidence of Comey's intent to violate the law.

"Everyone at the DOJ involved in the decision said it wasn’t a close call," an official told Fox News. "They all thought this could not be prosecuted."

That said, it's important to note that this decision was the result of a 'carve-out' investigation separate of the IG probe on FISA abuse.

The Conservative Treehouse lays out the situation:

This is NOT the Inspector General Michael Horowitz report on DOJ and FBI FISA abuse.

This is a carve-out.

From the outset it was reported and confirmed that U.S. Attorney John Huber was assigned to assist Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Huber’s job was to stand-by in case the IG carved out a particular concern, discovered during his investigation, that might involve criminal conduct.

Earlier this week Matt Whitaker said: “John Huber is reviewing anything related to Comey’s memos and the like.”

Put the two data points together and what you realize is that during the OIG review of potential DOJ and FBI FISA abuse… IG Horowitz investigated the Comey Memo’s and then passed that specific issue along to John Huber for DOJ review.

The IG criminal referral for the James Comey memo leaking was a carve-out sent to U.S. Attorney John Huber.

This is not the inspector general report on DOJ and FBI FISA abuse. This is an IG report carved out of the larger investigation. -Conservative Treehouse

In short, we will first see an IG report just covering Comey, with a more comprehensive report to follow on FISA abuse.

Trump calls Putin, offers help putting out Siberia wildfires – Moscow

US President Donald Trump has offered Russia help to battle wildfires that have swept across Siberia, the Kremlin said. Russian President Vladimir Putin declined the offer but called it a step towards improving rocky relations.

Trump called Putin on Wednesday evening, the Kremlin press service said. The Russian president expressed his “sincere gratitude” for Trump's concern and offer of a helping hand.

Putin then told his US counterpart that Russia has already dispatched multiple aircraft to Siberia to help fight the raging blaze that has spread to some 2.7 million hectares. So far, the fires have destroyed large swathes of forest, but have not encroached on residential areas.

Big Pharma Admits Measles Outbreak and Subsequent Media Hysteria Made Them Massive Profits

Since the beginning of the year, the Free Thought Project has been reporting on the hysteria associated with the measles outbreak and the subsequent loss of liberties and police state crackdown that’s ensued. We’ve seen children banned from public spaces, mandatory vaccinations enforced with police action, and a pro-vaccine push in the mainstream media like we’ve never seen before. In May, the pro-mandatory vaccine push reached a new level, as the Washington Post published an article calling for the arrest of those who choose not to vaccinate. Now we are seeing the result of said hysteria and it comes in the form of massive pharmaceutical industry profits.

On Tuesday, the pharmaceutical giant Merck said consumer demand for its measles vaccine skyrocketed thanks to the “outbreak” which helped boost sales in its second quarter.

According to CNBC, sales of children’s vaccines, which includes the New Jersey-based company’s MMR vaccine, for measles, mumps and rubella, jumped 58% year over year to $675 million, Merck announced in its second-quarter earnings report Tuesday. Merck, which is the sole U.S. supplier of measles vaccines, said the strong growth was due in part to this year’s measles outbreak, which was the largest in the U.S. since 1992.

Merch Chief Commercial Officer Frank Clyburn even mentioned the coverage in the news specifically.

“There was some buying to the private sector within the U.S. this quarter based on some of the measles outbreaks that you read in the news,” Clyburn said in a post-earnings conference call with investors. “And we do believe that we’ll continue to see growth for our pediatric vaccines going forward.”

Outbreaks are good for business and so is media hysteria that successfully whipped Americans into a fit of fear so massive that they are now supporting measures that include locking parents in cages for refusing to vaccinate as well as banning unvaccinated people from public spaces.

And all of this is over just 1,164 cases of measles, as of July 25. Not a single person has died from it and those 1,164 people are now immune to measles.

As TFTP reported at the end of March, in one of the most shocking moves to date over the 2019 measles outbreak, Rockland County officials declared a state of emergency and effectively banned any child under the age of 18, who had not received the MMR vaccine, from all public spaces. Then, in April, officials took it one step further and ordered mandatory vaccinations for multiple New York zip codes. Those who try to resist getting the shots are being fined.

While this may sound like an insane police state forcing people to undergo medical procedures against their will to many people, to others, it is utopia.

In the Washington Post in May, Juliette Kayyem took to the platform to advocate for fining and arresting people who choose not to vaccinate.

Trump to impose additional 10% tariff on remaining $300 bln of Chinese imports to US from Sept 1

US President Donald Trump said that he will impose additional 10 percent tariff on the remaining $300 billion of Chinese imports starting September 1, as trade war between Washington and Beijing rages on.

Trump announced the new tariff on Twitter, calling it “small” and expressing hope that “the future between our two countries [US and China] will be a very bright one.”

The US president said that the move was necessary because Beijing decided to renegotiate the trade deal already struck with Washington three months ago, failed to make good on its promise to buy “large quantities” of American agricultural products, and continues to send the dangerous opioid fentanyl to the US, so “many Americans continue to die.”

The new tariff is on top of the $250 billion in Chinese imports already taxed at 25 percent, Trump clarified.

Stock markets were alarmed at the announcement, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropping 130 points within minutes, wiping out all of the day's gains and venturing into negative territory.
