Routine website redesign obscures Democrat's record on criminal justice

A redesign of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website will make it harder for voters to inspect Sen. Kamala Harris's controversial record as the state's top cop.

The department removed public access to a number of reports on incarceration in the state, including when presidential candidate Kamala Harris (D.) was California's attorney general. Twice a year, the CDCR releases information about the number of new individuals incarcerated in the California prison system as part of its "Offender Data Points" series. These reports provide important information on demographics, sentence length, offense type, and other figures relevant to criminal justice and incarceration.

Maine Democrat Sara Gideon repeatedly violated election laws by getting reimbursed for personal political contributions to federal campaigns through a corporate-funded Maine political action committee, a review of both state and federal campaign filings discovered.

Federal election law explicitly prohibits individuals from making contributions in the name of another person or entity. The prohibition is spelled out on Gideon's own contribution page, which makes donors certify, "This contribution is made from my own funds, and funds are not being provided to me by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution."

Karen Weaver, the incumbent mayor of Flint, Mi., used campaign funds for an event at an adult entertainment called "Flint's Club 69," according to a report from Michigan Live.

The venue, which displays "Club 69" in the format of an interstate highway sign, usually functions as a gentleman's club. Campaign finance forms show Weaver's campaign paying $7,500 to the company that owns the club, "Power Team 69," for "consulting" services.
