AMD: The Vega Pricing Scandal

Reviewers and consumers have accused AMD of misrepresenting the actual price of RX Vega.

These accusations alleged that the price points provided by AMD were launch-only offers and that true MSRP was really $100 higher.

AMD just put these concerns to bed, stating the prices for Vega at launch are the goal for future sales of the GPUs as well.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has been in the midst of a firestorm the last few days as accusations have alleged that the company misrepresented RX Vega's pricing.

These accusations claimed that AMD intended the initial prices of the Vega 56 and Vega 64 reference models, $399 and $499 MSRP respectively, as launch-only deals with MSRP to rise $100 subsequent to the first batch of supply running out.

This understandably caused anger from reviewers who used price as a factor in their recommendations, and caused an uproar among consumers who viewed this tactic as shady and deceitful.

There's just one problem: AMD has recently denied these accusations and stated its intentions to work towards launch MSRPs going forward.

US hints at concession in trade deal with Japan: minister

WASHINGTON (Kyodo) – The United States indicated Friday it would make a concession in trade talks with Japan so that the two countries will be able to strike a deal at an early date, Japanese economic revitalization minister Toshimitsu Motegi said.

After a two-day ministerial meeting in Washington, Motegi told reporters that the discussions for a bilateral trade agreement made good headway and that he and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will arrange another talks later this month.

Japan and the United States are believed to be aiming for an agreement in September.

Following up on working-level talks in Washington last month, Motegi and Lighthizer are believed to have continued discussions on tariff cuts in sensitive areas such as beef and pork by Japan and automobiles and auto parts by the United States.

A key issue is whether Tokyo and Washington will reach a win-win agreement in what is perceived to be a White House goalpost for September. Trump appears eager to claim a major trade victory in a boost to his 2020 re-election bid.
