ok, from Jan. 1, 2013 edition of the Congressional Record indicates a William H. wyche of Virginia being named as a Foreign Service Officer of the Dept of State.

so we are indeed talking about a Hussein appointee who got this job right after Hussein was s/elected to a second term.

incidentally, there was a congressman/senator from the late 1970s to 2001 named William wyche Fowler Jr. and he was from Georgia. maybe a family relation, maybe nothing to see here. wyche Fowler was indeed involved a lot in Middle EAst diplomacy…

Awesome story Anon, and thank you for sharing it.

Your Dad is a true hero his story deserves to be remembered by history. i had hoped that when POTUS visited Hanoi this year that he might discuss with the leadership there the fate of those left behind. Everything I've read leads me to believe that between 500 and 800 POWs were left behind, alive, in Vietnam and Laos in 1975.

I'm very glad you got to be with your Dad for many years subsequent to his time as a POW.
