11 Wounded After Gunman Attacks in Democrat-Controlled New Orleans

Eleven people were wounded when a gunman opened fire in Democrat-controlled New Orleans Sunday morning.

The Daily Mail reports that shots were fired on Canal Street around 3:30 a.m.

No fatalities were reported but NBC News/Associated Press note that two people were hospitalized in critical condition.

The shooting followed the annual Bayou Classic, a “Thanksgiving weekend rivalry football game between Grambling State and Southern University that’s played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.”

CNN reports that police arrived on scene quickly enough that they heard the sounds of some of the gunfire. “An individual was detained near the scene” but there was no confirmation as to whether the individual is a suspect or simply a person of interest.

Devastating Earthquake Destroys The PMOI/NCR Base In Albania, Possibly Dozens Dead, Survivors Blame Iran

TIRANA – On 26 November, early Wednesday morning at 3:54 local time, northwestern Albania was struck by a strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter northwest of the capital Tirana. The maximum perceived intensity was VIII (severe) on the Modified Mercalli intensity scale. The tremor was felt in all parts of the country, and in places as far away as the Italian city Taranto and the Serbian capital Belgrade, some 370 kilometers northeast of the epicenter. It was the strongest earthquake to hit Albania in forty years. There have been hundreds of aftershocks, of which four have been greater than 5-magnitude.

Following the deadly earthquake, the Albanian government declared Wednesday a day of national mourning and a state of emergency in the Durres and Tirana regions. The earthquake razed several buildings to the ground in the port city of Durres and the surrounding villages, trapping dozens of people. Material damage and casualties have been reported in Tirana also. Neighboring and European Union countries have reacted to the earthquake with sending civil emergency rescue teams and financial aid.

For more than 36 hours, civil emergency crews, police, the army and specialized rescue teams from other countries have been digging in the ruins of collapsed buildings seeking survivors. The authorities say they have so far rescued 45 people. According to the latest official data, at least 48 people were killed in the earthquake, with 790 injured and more than 20 missing. These numbers are far from complete, especially considering the official hiding of foreign victims.

UN chief warns ‘point of no return’ for climate change imminent

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday that the world’s efforts to stop climate change have been “utterly inadequate” so far and there is a danger global warming could pass the “point of no return.”

Speaking before the start on Monday of a two-week international climate conference in Madrid, the UN chief said the impact of rising temperatures – including more extreme weather – is already being felt around the world, with dramatic consequences for humans and other species.

ICE finally catches alleged child sexual predator repeatedly released by Philadelphia police

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were able to arrest an illegal alien accused of sexual abuse against children after local police refused to honor an ICE detainer and twice released him from their custody.

The Philadelphia Police Department arrested Hector Moran-Espinoza, a Guatemalan national living in the U.S. illegally, on two different occasions on charges relating to the sexual abuse of children. Both times, federal immigration authorities lodged a detainer request for Moran-Espinoza, but both times, Philadelphia Police ignored their requests and released him back into the community, according to a press release from ICE.

The PPD arrested Moran-Espinoza on April 2 for an eyebrow-raising list of charges: involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, unlawful contact with a minor-sexual offenses, statuary sexual assault, endangering the welfare of children-parent or guardian commits offense, indecent assault-without the consent of other person, rape by forceable compulsion, sexual abuse of children-photographing, videotaping, depicting on a computer or filming sexual acts, aggravated indecent assault without consent, corruption of minors, and reckless endangerment of another person.

Protests continue in Iraq despite PM’s pledge to quit

Anti-government protests have continued in Iraq, a day after Prime Minister Adil Abdel-Mahdi announced his intention to resign under the pressure of nearly two months of unrest and a call from the country’s top cleric for parliament to end its support of the government.

“We’ll keep up this movement. Abdel-Mahdi’s resignation is only the first step, and now all corrupt figures must be removed and judged,” said one protester in the southern city of Diwaniyah, where thousands took to streets early on November 30.

In the capital, Baghdad, protesters threw rocks at security forces positioned behind concrete barriers to protect government buildings.

“We won’t leave our barricades until the regime falls, until we get jobs, water, electricity,” one protester said.

CDC inspection findings reveal more about Fort Detrick containment breaches

The Army’s premier biological laboratory on Fort Detrick reported two breaches of containment earlier this year, leading to the Centers for Disease and Control halting its high-level research.

The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases announced Friday that it would restart its operations on a limited scale.

As it works to regain full operational status, more details about the events leading to the shutdown are emerging.

An inspection findings report, obtained by the News-Post through a Freedom of Information Act request, details some of the observations found during CDC inspections as well as by USAMRIID employees who reported the issues.

The two breaches reported by USAMRIID to the CDC demonstrated a failure of the Army laboratory to “implement and maintain containment procedures sufficient to contain select agents or toxins” that were made by operations in biosafety level 3 and 4 laboratories, according to the report. Biosafety level 3 and 4 are the highest levels of containment, requiring special protective equipment, air flow and standard operating procedures.

Plumbing the mysteries of Plum Island

(CBS News) A place that's off-limits to most of us was in the news this past week. The federal government announced it has granted a license for a new foot-and-mouth vaccine . . . a vaccine developed at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. With correspondent John Miller we get a rare inside look:

Plum Island sits at the end of New York's Long Island like a question mark. For nearly 60 years, controversies and mysteries have engulfed it.

And no wonder. The island is controlled by the Department of Homeland Security. Its labs are staffed by scientists from the United States Department of Agriculture. They come and go by special government ferries, guarded by armed officers.

We were asked not to film the docks on either side.

So what really goes on here? The USDA says scientists study diseases that can affect livestock, primarily overseas, to develop vaccines.

And although the government says the germs stored on the island affect only animals, that doesn't mean they're not dangerous. And information about them is strictly protected for security reasons.

Netherlands: Three children wounded in stabbing at Hague shopping center

Three children were wounded in a knife attack on Friday evening in the Hague, Netherlands.

The stabbings took place at Grote Markstrattt, the city’s main shopping street, at around 7:45 pm while families were out shopping for Black Friday deals. A motive for the attack is still unknown, the NL times reports.

Police spokesperson Marije Kuiper has said that that it’s far too early to tell if the stabbings were an act of terror.

Dutch police say the suspect is a man, aged between 45 and 50, with tanned skin who was wearing a grey jogging suit.

A spokesperson for Hudson’s Bay department store said that two of the victims were teenage girls who sprinted inside of the store after they were stabbed on the street.

“I saw two girls screaming and running away. A man fled,” one witness said. “He jumped very athletically over benches to get away. He looked like a cheetah,” they added.

Is Another YouTube Purge Imminent? What Will It Bring?

Get ready for the new euphemism for social media censorship: “no longer commercially viable.” YouTube on December 10 reportedly will implement new terms of service that allow the video-sharing goliath to end creator accounts summarily if they cannot be monetized. And how will YouTube decide if an account cannot be monetized? By removing ads from a channel ahead of the changing terms.

British nationalist Laura Towler sounded the alarm on Wednesday and urged her viewers to subscribe to her BitChute account after receiving a notification from YouTube of the impending changes. Towler reported that her videos were still monetized as of Tuesday. But after she received the notice, she discovered that YouTube had peremptorily removed all of the ads on her videos.

As a result, her channel is “no longer commercially viable.”

Since 2016, and with increasing frequency, conservatives and nationalists are seeing their YouTube channels erased, often with no warning or explanation. In the blink of an eye, years of work creating content and building an audience are lost, often along with the related income.

Towler is not the first right-of-center vlogger to warn of another impending purge. Earlier this month, Chadwick Moore, a columnist for Spectator USA with 51,100 Twitter followers, tweeted: “Any political YouTubers with remotely interesting, controversial, or right-of-center content needs to set up their @bitchute or other alt account now and start moving videos over and promoting their new platform. Sources say massive purge is starting mid-December. Worse than ever.”

Investor and philanthropist George Soros has moved $18 billion to his foundation – the majority of his estimated $24.6 billion fortune.

The Open Society Foundations, which seeks to promote democracy around the globe, confirmed the massive donation on Tuesday. A foundation official told CNNMoney in an emailed statement the move "reflects an ongoing process of asset transfer that has been underway for several years."

The Wall Street Journal first reported the transfer of the funds.

The Open Society Foundations has outposts in more than 100 countries, according to the organization's website. It has worked to combat authoritarianism, promote human rights, and support "marginalized" groups – including refugees, the LGBT community, and minorities.

DARPA: ‘Militarized Microbes’ To Spread GMO Bacteria

The Pentagon’s DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) wants to be able to spread genetically modified bacteria as “explosives sensors.” The United States government could very well be looking into ways to militarize microbes.

The Pentagon has teamed up with Raytheon for this project, which seems like it should come straight out of a dystopian science fiction story. The government wants to develop a system capable of delivering genetically modified bacteria underground, according to a report by RT.

Initiated by DARPA, the same agency that led programs to create telekinetic super soldiers and weaponized robotic insects, the project seeks to “program two bacterial strains to monitor ground surfaces for explosive materials,” defense contractor Raytheon said in a joint press release with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

So the genetically modified bacteria are for your own good!

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will lead a delegation of congressional Democrats to the United Nations climate change conference in Madrid next week, her office announced Saturday.

Pelosi and 14 other Democrats from both chambers of Congress will attend the 2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, also called COP25, her office said.

"It is a privilege to accompany a high-level Congressional delegation to Spain to combat the existential threat of our time: the climate crisis," Pelosi said in the statement.
