Grand Jury Indicts Democratic Donor Ed Buck on Drug Trafficking Offenses, including Giving Methamphetamine to 2 Victims Who Suffered Fatal Overdoses

Edward Buck was indicted this afternoon by a federal grand jury on a series of narcotics distribution offenses, including providing methamphetamine to two men who died after being injected with the drug.

Buck, a 65-year-old West Hollywood resident, was named in a five-count indictment that charges him with two counts of distributing methamphetamine resulting in death.

The indictment alleges that Buck provided methamphetamine to Gemmel Moore, who overdosed on the drug and died on July 27, 2017, and Timothy Dean, who also suffered a fatal overdose in Buck’s apartment, on January 7, 2019.

Each of the charges alleging the distribution of narcotics resulting in death carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a maximum penalty of life without parole.

Buck also faces three counts of distributing methamphetamine to men in May 2018, December 2018 and last month. Each of these three charges carries a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in federal prison. Buck’s arraignment has been scheduled for Oct. 10 in United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles.

The indictment alleges that Buck “engaged in a pattern of soliciting men to consume drugs that Buck provided and perform sexual acts at Buck’s apartment,” which is a practice described as “party and play.” Buck allegedly solicited victims on social media platforms, including a gay dating website, and used a recruiter to scout and proposition men.

Once the men were at his apartment, Buck allegedly prepared syringes containing methamphetamine, sometimes personally injecting the victims with or without their consent, according to the indictment. Buck also allegedly injected victims with more narcotics than they expected and sometimes injected victims while they were unconscious.

“Buck exerted power over his victims, often targeting vulnerable individuals who were destitute, homeless, and/or struggled with drug addiction, in order to exploit the relative wealth and power imbalance between them,” the indictment alleges.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in court.

Buck also faces charges, including operating a drug house, that were filed last month by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Buck is currently being held in federal custody without bond, and the federal case is expected to proceed first.

The federal case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. The investigation is being conducted with the support of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Chelsea C. Norell and Brittney M. Harris of the International Narcotics, Money Laundering, and Racketeering Section.

Schiff Hired Former NSC Colleague and Crony of ‘Whistleblower’ Eric Ciaramella ONE DAY After Trump-Ukraine Call

Adam Schiff hired former NatSec colleague and friend of ‘whistleblower’ Eric Ciaramella just one day after Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Eric Ciaramella filed a whistleblower complaint against President Trump in August over his call to Zelensky alleging Trump threatened to withhold military aid from Ukraine unless they agreed to investigate the Biden crime family.

Mr. Ciaramella, however, ran to Schiff’s staffers (Sean Misko?) before he filled out the whistleblower complaint, a violation of House rules.

Trump released the transcript of his call to Zelensky and there was no pressure, no quid pro quo and Ukraine received US military aid three weeks before the deadline.

New records revealed House Intel Chairman Adam Schiff hired aide Sean Misko on July 26, not in August as previously reported.

Both Misko and Ciaramella worked together in the National Security Council and they are now both working together to remove Trump with the latest coup attempt.

It was previously reported by the Washington Examiner that public records indicated Sean Misko, 37, started work on Schiff’s committee in August as a professional staff member. A specific start date was not available until this week when the latest congressional quarterly disbursements were released.

Misko was the director for the Gulf States at the NSC between 2015 until the first half of 2018. The Washington Examiner has established that the whistleblower is a CIA officer who was on the NSC during the Obama administration and worked on Ukrainian issues with Joe Biden, the 2020 Democratic candidate, when he was vice president.

Ciaramella, 33, is a career CIA analyst and was the Ukraine director on the NSC from 2016 until the summer of 2017. In October 2016, he was Biden’s guest at a State Department banquet.

Before joining the NSC, Misko worked in the Obama administration at the State Department for deputy chief of staff Jake Sullivan, who went on to become Hillary Clinton’s senior foreign policy adviser during her 2016 presidential campaign.

Both Ciaramella and Misko started their tenures during the Obama administration and left during the first year of the Trump administration. The Washington Examiner was told by a former senior White House official that both had a close, “bro-like” relationship while working at the NSC together.

Misko has been present in the impeachment hearings snickering, sneering and rolling his eyes as pro-Trump witnesses confirmed there was no quid pro quo.

Recently, Misko was seen sitting behind Democrat Rep. Jackie Speier during Fiona Hill’s testimony.

Opioid Producers Put Blame on Addicts

Opioid overdoses kill more than 130 people in the U.S. daily1 in an unprecedented crisis that continues to spiral out of control. The pharmaceutical companies behind these drugs are now facing mounting lawsuits, as it's become clear that they're the ones with blood on their proverbial hands, having pushed drugs on unsuspecting pain patients while knowing they were unsafe.

From 1999 to 2017, more than 702,000 people died from a drug overdose and, in 2017, this was a leading cause of injury-related deaths in the U.S. Of the 70,000 drug-overdose deaths that occurred that year, 68% involved opioids.2

Purdue Pharma, which manufactures OxyContin, was instrumental in driving up sales of the drug to close to $2 billion a year by 2004,3 and as it became clear that people were dying as a result, they engaged in every damage-control tactic they could think of, even suggesting that the only people dying from opioids were already drug addicts.

In a major exposé by ProPublica, the lengths Purdue Pharma went to downplay OxyContin's risks are revealed. In short, ProPublica senior reporter David Armstrong wrote, "OxyContin's makers delayed the reckoning for their role in the opioid crisis by funding think tanks, placing friendly experts on leading outlets, and deterring or challenging negative coverage."4

Doctor Behind Opioid Story Had Ties to Purdue Pharma

Today, the pharmaceutical industry's contribution to the opioid epidemic is well established, with even the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services stating:5

"In the late 1990s, pharmaceutical companies reassured the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain relievers and healthcare providers began to prescribe them at greater rates.

Increased prescription of opioid medications led to widespread misuse of both prescription and non-prescription opioids before it became clear that these medications could indeed be highly addictive."

But in 2004, doctors were being singled out for overprescribing the drugs, with criminal charges pending against major prescribers. That year, psychiatrist Sally Satel wrote an essay titled "Doctors Behind Bars: Treating Pain is Now Risky Business," which was featured in The New York Times.6

While painting people who became addicted to painkillers as typically "a seasoned drug abuser with a previous habit involving pills, alcohol, heroin or cocaine," Satel cited a study suggesting OxyContin was rarely the only drug involved in opioid-related deaths and described an unnamed colleague who needed to prescribe large amounts of oxycodone to help patients get out of bed.

Satel was described as a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, but her many ties to Purdue Pharma were noticeably absent. "Among the connections revealed by emails and documents obtained by ProPublica," Armstrong wrote:7

" … Purdue donated $50,000 annually to the institute, which is commonly known as AEI, from 2003 through this year, plus contributions for special events, for a total of more than $800,000. The unnamed doctor in Satel's article was an employee of Purdue, according to an unpublished draft of the story.

The study Satel cited was funded by Purdue and written by Purdue employees and consultants. And, a month before the piece was published, Satel sent a draft to Burt Rosen, Purdue's Washington lobbyist and vice president of federal policy and legislative affairs, asking him if it 'seems imbalanced.'"

Baltimore’s mayor warns of a van snatching girls to sell organs. Police have no reports of ‘actual incidents.’

In a recent televised news conference and interview, Baltimore Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young said he’s concerned about a white van “snatching” young girls to sell their organs. But Baltimore Police say they have no reports of any such incidents.

Young’s source, according to an interview with WBAL, is social media.

“We’re getting reports of somebody in a white van trying to snatch up young girls for human trafficking and for selling body parts, I’m told. So we have to be careful because there’s so much evil going on, not just in the city of Baltimore, but around the country,” he said. “It’s all over Facebook.”

Police spokesman Matt Jablow said the department is “aware of the posts on social media, but we do not have any reports of actual incidents.”

Young’s claim echoes a statement he made during one of his weekly news conferences last month. Asked Nov. 20 whether he plans to sign a bill banning retailers’ use of plastic bags, Young responded he hasn’t taken a position yet because he’s focusing on more important issues like murders, shootings and other crime.

“Now, I’m worried about people pulling up in vans, snatching young girls to take their organs or sell them into prostitution.”

Organizations that fight human trafficking warn that a pervasive myth about the crime is that it always involves a Hollywood-style kidnapping. Oftentimes, human traffickers use other tools to prey on vulnerable people.

“While some traffickers physically hold the people they exploit, it is more common for them to use psychological means of control,” according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. “Fear, trauma, drug addiction, threats against families, and a lack of options due to poverty and homelessness can all prevent someone from leaving.”

Young’s spokesman Lester Davis said the mayor’s intention was never to spread alarm. Davis said Young believes that when a person sees reports of a crime — even if the details “on their face seemed unlikely” — they ought to tell police.

“When citizens hear about things alleged to have taken place,” Davis said, “the mayor wants to encourage them to reach out to the police and let the police do their job, which is to investigate claims.”

‘Coerced Migration’: New Jersey Officials Accuse NYC of Relocating its Homeless to Newark

In a lawsuit filed Monday, a New Jersey mayor accused New York City and its mayor, Bill de Blasio, of forcing homeless New Yorkers into neighboring New Jersey.

According to the New York Post, officials in Newark, New Jersey, including Mayor Ras Baraka, are suing over the de Blasio administration’s Special One-Time Assistance (SOTA) program, which relocates homeless families from New York to New Jersey.

“The SOTA program provides one year’s full rent up front for eligible DHS [Department of Homeless Services] clients to move within New York City, to other New York State counties, or to another state, Puerto Rico, or Washington, DC,” the NYC.gov page on the program explains.

The lawsuit accuses New York City of sending vulnerable residents to Newark, where they are forced to live in inhumane conditions.

“This case concerns an unlawful program of ‘coerced’ migration,” Newark lawyers said in documents filed in the US District Court in New Jersey on Monday.

According to Newark officials, the City of New York is “forcing SOTA recipients to accept the proverbial ‘offer they can’t refuse.’” Officials also accuse New York of breaking federal commerce laws by pressuring its residents to pick apartments throughout Newark hastily and through the SOTA Program paying the apartments’ landlords an entire year’s rent in advance.

Out of New York City’s population of about 8.5 million people, about 63,000 are homeless, according to the Coalition for the Homeless. That means that about 1 in every 121 New Yorkers is homeless.

US Navy Places $22 Billion Order for Nuclear Subs in “most expensive shipbuilding contract ever”

It was Cyber Monday and the U.S. Navy put in a $22.2 billion order for new nuclear submarines but absolutely no headlines in the United States, pundits on Morning Joe, former presidents, nor elected politicians active on social media have been spotted asking this question in response to the massive purchase: How we gonna pay for it?

According to CNN, the contract issued on Monday is the Navy’s “most expensive shipbuilding contract ever” and was awarded to weapons maker General Dynamics Electric Boat and subcontractors. “The massive contract for nine nuclear-powered, Virginia class attack submarines comes just months after the head of the US Navy in the Pacific warned of a massive Chinese naval buildup and his trouble in getting enough submarines to counter it,” the news outlet reported.

As lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and 2020 Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders have pointed out, the “how we gonna pay for it” question has become a common mantra among the “elite D.C. pundit” class and “deficit scolds” when public benefits like tuition-free higher education, Medicare for All, and paid family are proposed—but rarely if ever deployed against massive military expenditures like the “ultra-costly, underwhelming” F-35 fighter jet, the $6.4 trillion thrown at the endless “war on terrorism,” or these latest Virginia class attack submarines.

“If you’re following the presidential race,” Lindsay Koshgarian, director of the National Priorities Project at the Insitute for Policy Studies, wrote in a column last week, “you’ve heard plenty of sniping about Medicare for All and whether we can afford it. But when it comes to endless war or endless profits for Pentagon contractors, we’re told we simply must afford it—no questions asked.”

While a search of social media and news reporting turned up no evidence of elected lawmakers speaking out or asking questions about the cost of the Navy’s latest order, Albert Lee, running in the 2020 Democratic primary to unseat incumbent Rep. Earl Blumenauer in Oregon’s 3rd congressional district, did make the connection between Pentagon spending and what else that money might possibly fund.

“$22 billion could fund a lot [of kids] learning,” Lee said. “We need an education race; not a wasted arms race.”

Netanyahu trial witnesses may include Vegas magnate Sheldon Adelson and Oracle’s Larry Ellison

Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and Oracle Corp. founder Larry Ellison are among 333 potential witnesses in the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s attorney general announced Monday.

Israelis got a glimpse of the legal and political battle ahead as indictments were formally served against Netanyahu, triggering a 30-day clock in which he can request parliamentary immunity. Atty. Gen. Avichai Mandelblit had announced the indictments on Nov. 21 but held off presenting them to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, until a number of Netanyahu’s procedural queries were resolved.

The filing provided an eye-opening look at the huge list of potential witnesses, rife with internationally prominent names.

They included Ellison, who was rumored to have an interest in Israeli media acquisitions, and Adelson and his wife, Miriam, who own a free Israeli newspaper and have been staunch supporters of Netanyahu. Other potential witnesses include Israeli ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, one of Netanyahu’s closest associates; Israeli-born Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan; and American businessman and former ambassador Ron Lauder.

The Adelsons’ Israeli attorney, Avigdor Klagsbald, said he could not say whether his clients would be asked to appear in court in Israel. Asked whether the criminal case had changed their support of the prime minister, Klagsbald said, “I don’t know.”

Netanyahu was indicted on one count of bribery and three counts each of fraud and breach of trust, in three cases involving the alleged exchange of gifts for political favors and his alleged attempts to influence the media. In one case, he is alleged to have offered a deal to the publisher of Israel’s leading daily newspaper, Yediot Aharonot, in which Netanyahu would suppress the Adelsons’ paper, Hayom, in exchange for more positive coverage in Yediot.

Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, Netanyahu is the first Israeli head of government to be charged while in office.

“The rushed manner in which the incomplete document was served to the Knesset speaker is evidence of the influence of the political calendar,” Netanyahu said late Monday. Since his indictment, he has accused the nation’s judiciary and law enforcement authorities of engaging in an “attempted coup d’état.”

His political future, and that of the country, remains shrouded in questions.

Despite his long political dominance, Netanyahu is now a caretaker prime minister. Twice in the past year, in April and in September, he led Israel to elections but failed to win an outright majority or form a coalition with smaller parties. His principal rival, the centrist Benny Gantz, a former army chief, similarly failed once. If the impasse is not resolved by midnight on Dec. 11, Israel will automatically be thrust into a third consecutive electoral campaign.

City Police: Third Berry arrested for child sex abuse

A third member of the city Berry family was arrested on child sex abuse charges, city police announced today. Jonathan Storm-Lee Berry, whose brother and sister-in-law were arrested in April on federal charges, is accused of abusing three young children.

City police began investigating Jonathan Storm-Lee Berry, 25, of 64 Owego St. Apt. 5, after officers were called on Nov. 20 to a disturbance at a Pendleton Street home, said Lt. Michael Strangeway.

Officers determined Berry had pushed a 32-year-old woman down a flight of stairs, punched her television and threw it out a window, Strangeway said. The woman did not report being injured, he said.

While police were investigating, she told officers she suspected Berry was sexually abusing three children known to her, Strangeway said. Detectives investigated the tip, leading to an interview with Berry on Wednesday at the City Police Station at 25 Court St., he said. After the interview, officers arrested Berry on sex abuse and criminal sex act charges, Strangeway said.

Berry sexually abused a 2-year-old boy, a four-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy on separate occasions at a Pendleton Street residence, according to a news release. Berry was acquainted with the young children before the attacks, according to police.

Jonathan Storm-Lee Berry is the third Berry to be arrested on child sex abuse charges since April, according city police and U.S. Department of Justice news releases.

Berry’s brother, Lawrence C. Berry, 26, was arrested by city police on Sept. 13, 2018 for conspiring with his wife to create the child pornography, according to The Cortland Voice archives. Lawrence Berry’s wife, Brittany Berry, 25, was arrested Sept. 3 for sexually assaulting a boy relative under the age of five, filming the attack and sending the pornography to her husband, the archives note.

Both Lawrence Berry and Brittany Berry were charged on April 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York with conspiring to sexually exploit a child, according to the Department of Justice.

Brittany Berry pled guilty on Oct. 10 to one count of conspiracy to sexually exploit a child and five counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Justice Department. She is scheduled for sentencing at 11 a.m. Feb. 6 in Utica in federal court, according to the department.
