Dr. Andrew Morris-Singer, board certified in internal medicine, is a national thought leader, speaker, writer, and consultant on teaming and leadership in healthcare. He is the Founder and Chair of Primary Care Progress, as well as a clinician, educator, and an entrepreneurial philanthropist. He regularly writes and speaks on current trends in primary care, healthcare workforce issues, and the development and practice of Relational Leadership™ to help advance health and healthcare reform. He is Co-Director of the Morris-Singer Foundation, which works to foster a healthy democracy in the US. In addition to being featured in national media outlets that include NPR, CNN, and The New York Times, he also speaks at academic medical institutions and professional conferences across the country. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, and a lecturer in Global Health & Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

COREY MORRIS-SINGER, PH.D. is a scientist and advocate. He is a co-founder and board member of Primary Care Progress, a nonprofit organization focused on engaging local communities to promote primary care, inspire innovation in care delivery, and develop primary care leaders. Dr. Morris-Singer is the Founder and past-President of the Harvard Science Policy Group and inaugurated the Science and the Presidential Election symposium, which draws together members of Congress and biomedical policy leaders. He has also been an advocate on Capitol Hill for bipartisan support of science education and biomedical research funding.

 

Dr. Morris-Singer’s scientific research has utilized molecular genetic and biochemical approaches with unicellular to multicellular organisms to better understand fundamental aspects of cell-fate specification and gene regulation. His advocacy work has focused on broadening social understanding in medicine and science, and their impacts on society, especially for those at the margins. He is a founding member of the Science and Social Justice Project at the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership, a joint endeavor with Harvard Medical School, and is a member of the Genetics and Society Working Group. In addition, he has worked to advance nondiscrimination and civil marriage equality for gay and lesbian citizens.

 

Dr. Morris-Singer has published research and commentary in top scientific and political science journals such as the Cell, Developmental Biology, GeneWatch, Perspectives on Politics, Science Magazine, and Trends in Genetics, and co-authored a chapter on genetic studies of human behavior in a volume by NYU Press. A previous Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Scholar, Dr. Morris-Singer completed his doctoral research at Harvard Medical School’s Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, receiving his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard University.

Her father Stanley Wojcicki is of Polish descent, he is a professor of physics at Stanford University; mother Esther Wojcicki is a journalist and educator with Russian-Jewish roots. Susan's grandfather, Franciszek Wójcicki, was a lawyer and member of the Legislative Seym. Before the war, he belonged to the Wici Rural Youth Union, during the occupation he was an official of the London government, after the war he belonged to Stanisław Mikołajczyk, PSL. Grandmother, Janina Wójcicka, was a researcher at the Jagiellonian University. In 1948 she left Poland with her son and father Susan. Grandpa Susan never managed to leave Poland.

Esther Wojcicki has been teaching Journalism and English at Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto, California for the past 25 years, where she has been the driving force behind the development of its award-winning journalism program. It is now the largest high school journalism program in the U.S involving 400 students. All the publications can be found at http://voice.paly.net which is the school publication website. In the spring of 2008, she was recognized for inspiration and excellence in scholastic journalism advising by the National Scholastic Press Association. She has won multiple awards throughout the years. A couple of others included the 1990 Northern California Journalism teacher of the year in 1990 and California State Teacher Credentialing Commission Teacher of the Year in 2002. In 2009, she was awarded the Gold Key Award by Columbia University Scholastic Press for outstanding contributions to student journalism. She served on the University of California Office of the President Curriculum Committee where she helped revise the beginning and advanced journalism curriculum for the state of California. In 2005–6 she worked as the Google educational consultant and helped design the Google Teacher Outreach program, which includes the website www.google.com/educators and the Google Teacher Academy. She holds a B.A. degree from UC Berkeley in English and Political Science, a general secondary teaching credential from UC Berkeley, a graduate degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Berkeley, an advanced degree in French and French History from the Sorbonne, Paris, a Secondary School Administrative Credential from San Jose State University, and a M.A. in Educational Technology from San Jose State University. She has also worked as a professional journalist for multiple publications and now blogs regularly for Huffington Post and HotChalk.
