Descending is at least partially to the Fibonacci sequence. I haven't worked it all out, but some of it fits. In a 2017 interview Maynard called Lateralus (which is to the fibonacci sequence) "a sophomoric effort, a dick joke" and claimed he "could do better" I'm just spitballing here, but, descending is him doing better and he said he could because he already had at least begun descending by that point. Maynard swapped DC for LA in Aenema at the DC concert. I'd bet they're anons.
