DISGRACEFUL! Pope Francis Compares US President Trump to King Herod Who Slaughtered Baby Boys During the Time of Christ

In the New Testament, the Massacre of the Innocents is the incident in the nativity narrative of the Gospel of Matthew in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, orders the execution of all male children two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem.

On Thursday Pope Francis trashed the global populist people’s movements and compared President Trump to King Herod who slaughtered all the baby boys in Bethlehem.

What an outrageous statement by a very offensive and ignorant man.

In a report published on Thursday, it was reported that while on a recent visit to Buddhists in Thailand, Pope Francis addressed the issue of refugees, comparing the policy of building walls and detention centers to the acts of King Herod who killed Jesus.

La Civilta Cattolica reported on Thursday that while in Thailand, Pope Francis met a group of 48 Jesuits from Southeast Asia. Pope Francis is unique in several respects; he is the first pope from the southern hemisphere and, most significantly, he is the first Jesuit to be appointed to the position. The pope discussed the issue of refugees and immigrants with his fellow Jesuits.

“For the Jesuits our work with refugees has become a real “theological place.” That’s how I see it, a theological place. Pedro Arrupe right here in Thailand in his last speech reaffirmed the importance of this mission. Arrupe was a prophet to me: his ‘swan song’ was the foundation, right here in Bangkok, of the Jesuit Refugee Service. Then, during the flight to Rome from Thailand, he suffered a stroke.”

“The phenomenon of refugees has always existed, but today it is better known because of social differences, hunger, political tensions and especially war. For these reasons, migratory movements are intensifying. What is the answer the world gives? The policy of waste. Refugees are waste material. The Mediterranean has been turned into a cemetery. The notorious cruelty of some detention centers in Libya touches my heart. Here in Asia, we all know the problem of the Rohingya. I must admit that I am shocked by some of the narratives I hear in Europe about borders. Populism is gaining strength.”

House GOPers Urge Senate Leaders to Require Campaigning Democrats to Recuse from Impeachment Trial

WASHINGTON—Twenty-six Republican House members are urging Senate leaders to require five Democratic senators who are campaigning for their party’s 2020 presidential nomination to recuse themselves from the upper chamber’s impeachment trial if it is held.

“Unless it benefitted their fundraising or propped up their campaign issues page, the Senate Democrats running for President have ignored their day job and their constituents,” Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) said in a statement announcing the resolution.

“Suddenly returning to Washington in pursuit of their ‘Spartacus moment’ is an embarrassment to our standards of judicial impartiality and a poor excuse for public service,” Walker continued.

“Every Senate Democrat who filed for President should recuse themselves from impeachment proceedings; they have devoted themselves to replacing Donald Trump at the ballot box and are incapable of rendering an impartial verdict in an impeachment trial,” he said.

Five Democrats in the Senate are still campaigning, including Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Michael Bennet of Colorado.

Independent Sanders seeks the Democratic nomination and caucuses with Democrats in the Senate.

China Debuts ‘Fight the Traitors’ Video Game Where Players Assault Hong Kong Protesters

Chinese state media promoted a video game on Wednesday where users are tasked with hunting down the “traitors” leading Hong Kong’s ongoing pro-democracy demonstrations.

State propaganda outlet Global Times proudly reports on the success of a game entitled “Fight the Traitors Together,” where players are invited to “hunt down” eight real-life secessionists by “knock[ing] them down with slaps or rotten eggs until they are captured.”

According to the Times, the game allows players to “vent their anger at the separatist behavior of secessionists” during the recent anti-China demonstrations. “Hong Kong is part of China and this can’t be meddled with by outside powers,” reads the game cover page.

The eight “traitors” featured in the game are caricatures of real-life pro-democracy activists, including prominent opposition figures such as Jimmy Lai, the editor of the anti-communist Apple Daily newspaper and Demosisto leader Joshua Wong, who authorities have banned from running for office in the city.

Some of the other caricatures in the game include the depiction of protesters as a “crowd of black-clad rioters wearing yellow hats and face masks,” while another opposition figure, Anson Chan, “carries a bag with a US flag, clutches a stack of US dollars and holds a loudspeaker to incite violence in the streets.”

One player, Yang Qian, reportedly told the outlet that the “practices of these modern traitors have long been irritating,” and that while they remain free in real life, “at least in the game they should pay for what they have done.”

China’s approval of such violence is of little surprise given Beijing’s broader attitude towards the protests, which it prefers to refer to as riots caused by rogue political anarchists. The seriousness and longevity of the demonstrations have sparked concern that China may ultimately send in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to deal with the unrest, leading to fears that the movement may end with a repeat of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.

Hong Kong has been afflicted by political and civil unrest since early June when pro-democracy demonstrators broke out across the city to oppose an extradition bill that would have permitted criminal suspects to be sent to China for trial.

The bill has since been shelved by Hong Kong’s Beijing-controlled CEO Carrie Lam, although the protests have since intensified into a wider movement against Chinese interference and the undermining of the principle of “one country, two systems” that was agreed on following the handover from the British Empire in 1997.
