NEW YORK (AP) - Opening arguments in the federal government's case to block AT&T's efforts to gobble up Time Warner have been postponed until Thursday.

The outcome of the trial could shape how you get - and how much you pay for - streaming TV and movies.

AT&T says it needs to buy Time Warner to compete with the likes of Amazon, Netflix and Google in the rapidly evolving world of video entertainment.

The Justice Department's antitrust lawyers worry that consumers will end up paying more to watch their favorite shows, whether on a TV screen, smartphone or tablet.

Opening arguments had been expected Wednesday in Washington, which was experiencing a snowstorm. Preliminary matters in the trial started earlier in the week.

VATICAN COMMUNICATIONS CHIEF HAS RESIGNED!

UPDATED: Vatican communications chief quits

The Vaticanโ€™s communications chief resigned Wednesday amid a controversy over the alleged manipulation of a letter written by retired pope Benedict XVI about his successor Pope Francis.

Monsignor Dario Vigano โ€” who has carried out sweeping reforms of the Vaticanโ€™s media operations โ€” stepped down over the row that has become known as โ€œlettergateโ€.

The 55-year-old was accused of manipulating a private letter by Benedict XVI to help publicise part of the celebrations marking Francisโ€™ five years as pope.

MORE FB DATA STEALING DIG

Researchers say it was easy to take people's data from Facebook

โ€œI should have stored all the data, get that Lamborghini.โ€

n 2009, Bernhard Rieder created an app similar to the one that allegedly helped Cambridge Analytica collect data on 50 million people.

But he deleted the data.

โ€œI should have stored all the data, get that Lamborghini,โ€ said Rieder, an associate professor of new media and digital culture at the University of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

Riederโ€™s work sheds light just how many different parties could have accessed the data of Facebook users by exploiting the same loophole that allowed Cambridge Analytica to build its data set.

When asked how many companies might have been able to collect this kind of data, Rieder responded: โ€œHundreds of thousands?โ€

Rieder built a tool he called Netvizz, a Facebook data extractor for academics studying social networks. The app, which Rieder said was used by more than 100,000 researchers, is still working today, though it was weakened when Facebook made changes to its programming interface in 2015, limiting the kind of information apps could pull in an effort to protect its usersโ€™ privacy

Pope Francis to visit Ireland in August

Pope Francis is to visit Ireland in August - the first papal visit to the country for almost 40 years.

He will arrive in Dublin as the city hosts the World Meeting of Families, an international Catholic event which is staged every three years.

The last pontiff to visit the Republic of Ireland was Pope John Paul II. He drew crowds of over 2.5m - more than half the state's population - in 1979.

'WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES'

There has been no announcement about any possible visit to Northern Ireland.

There had been previous speculation that he would visit north of the border.

Bishop Donal McKeown of Derry said the Pope would be very welcome to visit Northern Ireland:

"I would be very keen that that could still be considered.

"It would be a big opportunity for so many of us," he said,

Like John Paul II, Pope Francis will celebrate Mass in Dublin's Phoenix Park.

Protests expected

He will also take part in the Festival of Families in Croke Park, the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

It is one of the largest stadiums in Europe with a capacity of more than 82,000.

The announcement, which was widely expected, has been welcomed by the Catholic bishops in Ireland and by the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister), Leo Varadkar.

Mr Varadkar said he looked forward to meeting the Pope.

"While it is not a formal state visit, it will be a major event for Ireland, with a high degree of public participation and a high international profile," he said.

Fake profiles boosted Brazilian ex-president Dilma

A BBC investigation has found that fake social media accounts and blogs were used to back the candidacy of Dilma Rousseff in Brazil during the 2010 election campaign. Rouseff won the election and was later re-elected before being impeached on corruption charges. She and her party deny any knowledge of the fakes.
