The Bible talks about people that commune with spirits/mediums. The scam is, it only works to Satan's advantage. With the C_A enjoying some benefits of occultism, it doesn't surprise me they'd have some of these types of people on payroll to take advantage of what they could.
Could it "work"? Sure. So can trying 100 different strategies, all at once, until Satan allows one to slip through the cracks; likely to work in his favor, in the end, anyway.
