No, I don't find it odd at all. People move from one tech company to another and bring skills and interests with them. In the case of working on standards (like the Unicode consortium or IETF or Bluetooth or various IEEE standards like WiFi), their employment agreement with a former employer typically wouldn't prevent them from continuing work in the same standards bodies since this type of work is not proprietary.
