Nearly a Dozen Ex-NFL Players Federally Charged With Health Care, Wire Fraud - DoJ

The US Department of Justice is accusing at least 10 former National Football League (NFL) athletes of carrying out a deliberate scheme to defraud the organization’s health care reimbursement plan for former athletes.

Almost a dozen former NFL players were charged on Thursday in the Eastern District of Kentucky for allegedly participating in a nationwide fraud scheme targeting the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Account Plan - which provides ex-athletes of the league, their spouses and dependants with up to $350,000 in tax-free refunds for out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by their insurance.

The US military evacuated about 300 family members of militants of the Daesh* terrorist group from the Al-Hawl camp in northern Syria to Iraq, Syrian state television reported on Wednesday.

“US military occupiers have taken out 300 family members of Daesh* militants of foreign origin from the Al-Hawl camp to Iraq”, the broadcaster reported.

Earlier in the month, US Secretary of Defence Mark Esper did not rule out sending additional troops to Syria despite having previously said that the total number of US troops on the ground would remain at around 600.

According to the UN, as of late November, about 69,000 people lived in the camp, of which 40 percent were Syrians, 45 percent were Iraqis and 15 percent were citizens of other countries.

The al-Hawl camp is controlled by the Arab-Kurdish troops of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. It has been in the international spotlight recently over the fact that it was overcrowded amid the escalation of violence in Syria.

Iran’s IRGC allegedly surrounds US aircraft carrier near Strait of Hormuz: photo

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:45 P.M.) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly surrounded a U.S. aircraft carrier group as it was transiting the imperative Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group was escorted by 20 small craft from the IRGC’s Navy.

The Defence Blog reported that one of the IRGC’s small craft was at one point within 400 yards of the aircraft carrier group.

Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos gave a dismal outlook for the nation if U.S. tech companies decide to not support the Pentagon’s war business.

“If big tech is going to turn their backs on the Department of Defense, this country is in trouble, that just can’t happen,” Bezos said at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California.

“Look I understand these are emotional issues, that’s okay, we don’t have to agree on everything, but this is how we are going to do it, we are going to support the Department of Defense. This country is important,” he added.

As Silicon Valley courts a closer relationship with the Pentagon, tech firms have faced backlash for pursuing lucrative Defense Department contracts.

The controversial contract, dubbed Project Maven, caused thousands of employees to protest the initiative.

In the wake of the firestorm, Google decided to not renew the contract upon its expiry in March 2019.

Finnish parents lose custody of child for refusing sex change treatment

A Finnish couple has lost custody of their 15-year-old daughter after they refused to allow her to undergo hormone therapy to “correct her gender”.

Two years ago, when the family had relocated from Finland to another country in the European Union, the teenage girl told her parents that she thought she was in the wrong body and demanded hormone therapy, Finnish broadcaster Yle reports.

“She was only fifteen years old, we couldn’t agree that she started using hormones,” said the mother.

After refusing to bow to their daughter’s demand, she became angry and just a few weeks later one of her friends contacted the police and filed a criminal report against the mother and the father. Shortly after, the government of the unnamed European Union country decided to take away the parent’s custody of the young girl.

“From having dressed very provocatively and feminine just a few months before, she had now started to use more masculine clothes just like the others in her new gang of friends,” the mother said.

A court hearing has been scheduled for Friday in an unsolved Obama-era scandal involving the brothers hired by House Democrats who were fired when one was identified as "an ongoing and serious risk to the House of Representatives."

That was when a computer server containing evidence had gone "missing," noted Washington watchdog Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking information on the Awan brothers case,

"The Awan Brothers IT scandal implicates national security and involves a cover-up by House Democrat leadership and, now, the Deep State DOJ," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

Judicial Watch launched a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in 2018 after the FBI declined to respond adequately to two separate FOIA requests.

Congressional Leaders Reach Tentative $1.4 Trillion Spending Bill

Senior lawmakers announced a tentative agreement Thursday on an almost $1.4 trillion government-wide spending bill that would stave off a federal shutdown next weekend and split the differences on a number of contentious issues.

The handshake agreement was announced by the chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., and other top members of Congress.

“There’s a meeting of the minds,” Lowey said.
