House Judiciary Cmte abruptly adjourns after marathon debate, will vote on articles of impeachment Friday morning

The House Judiciary Committee spent more than 14 hours Thursday locked in a rancorous and contentious debate about whether to approve two articles of impeachment against President Trump, with Democrats making an abrupt decision before midnight to hold off on the history-making vote until Friday morning….

The all-day debate ended as it began, with angry exchanges, personal insults and recycled arguments about process and propriety as the committee moved toward voting to impeach Trump for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

“It has been a long two days of consideration of these articles, and it is now very late at night,” said Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), at 11:15 p.m. “I want the members on both sides of the aisle to think about what has happened over these last two days and to search their consciences before we cast our final votes.”

He then banged his gavel and said lawmakers should return on Friday at 10 a.m. for the final votes to send articles of impeachment to the House floor next week.

Republicans on the committee, who appeared blindsided by the decision to delay the vote, erupted in frustration.

“This is the kangaroo court we’re talking about,” Rep. Douglas A. Collins (Ga.), the committee’s ranking Republican, said after Nadler made his announcement.

“Stalinesque,” added Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.)….

Worth watching the very short clip. Collins was FURIOUS. Unfortunately, Gohmert's "Stalinesque" comment didn't make the clip.

Not the OP. Nommed this post notable because this was an excellent summary by Mark Levin. One of the best I've ever seen–even from him.

>Re FACTS

There is nothing that is more factual than an exact transcript of well-researched material.

Part of our purpose here is to document important happenings that can shift the public's perception of a momentous event–like impeachment.

One of the objections I have to many comments on this board is that anons often seem uninterested in public perceptions. Because we discover things sooner, we underestimate the impact of statements such as Levin's because we are essentially bored with the information.

If

we are the news

we need to be aware of how the news–and i mean what is new to the public, NOT us–affects what happens in the world. Not to simply write off anything that we think we already "know."

Found these clips on the impeachment hearings end when trying to determine whether th hearing was still going on tonight.

Nadler read his speech at the end of the evening, so had obviously intended in advance to adjourn tomorrow, not tonight.

No wonder the Repubs were furious.

Thx forreplying, it's not personal.

Not upset with whether it gets a notable in the end, but took the opportunity to bring up an issue that is worth considering.

Anons DO get bored with stuff we already know and to often tend to think of it as not very interesting. Useful to see things from a broader perspective, just wanted to point that out.
