their enemies had pursued them to the shore of the sea
from where there was no escape
in their confusion some panicked and some cursed the day they were released from their bonds
preferring the relative comfort of slavery to certain doom
but some fell on their knees and called out to God
remembering the promises they had been given
then their leader turned his back to the enemy hordes,
looked to the sea and raised his staff
and the sea parted
and the people crossed it on the land beneath
and when they had crossed, they turned to see their enemies pursuing them
and watched as the seas came together
and consumed them.
