These House Democrats attended Trump's holiday party as colleagues worked on impeachment articles

A handful of House Democrats attended the White House Congressional Ball as the Democratic-led Judiciary Committee worked on approving articles of impeachment late into the night Thursday. Reps. Antonio Delgado of New York, Susie Lee of Nevada, Elaine Luria of Virginia, Josh Harder of California, Gil Cisneros of California, and Jim Costa of California attended the holiday party hosted by President Trump, according to Axios. Delgado, Lee, and Luria represent districts Trump won in 2016.

A representative for Lee, who is undecided on impeachment, said her attendance shows "she's committed to being a bipartisan problem solver through and through.'' Independent Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan was also at the party. Amash left the Republican Party earlier this year and has backed impeachment proceedings against Trump. "Rep. Amash has celebrated Christmas at the White House with his colleagues every year he has served in Congress,” Amash's chief of staff, Poppy Nelson, said. A senior White House official questioned why those who supported impeachment would attend the ball. “It's kind of odd to be voting to say the guy is a clear and present danger to the globe, but I'm going to come and hang out at the White House for a black-tie affair,” the official said.

‘Pot calling the kettle’: Matt Gaetz mocked for DUI incident after highlighting Hunter Biden drug escapades

Rep. Hank Johnson ripped into Rep. Matt Gaetz after the Florida Republican went after Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, for his drug addiction. "I would say that the pot calling the kettle black is not something that we should do," Johnson told Gaetz on Thursday in front of the House Judiciary Committee. "I don’t know what members, if any, have had any problems with substance abuse, been busted in DUI, I don’t know, but if I did, I wouldn’t raise it against anyone on this committee."

Gaetz, 37, took aim at Biden during an impeachment hearing, saying, "I don’t want to make light of anybody’s substance abuse issue … But it's a little hard to believe that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to resolve their international disputes when he could not resolve his own dispute with Hertz rental car leaving cocaine and a crack pipe in the car." In 2008, Gaetz was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities eventually dropped the charges against him. "I made bad decisions that resulted in an arrest, and that is sort of something that we all live with," the Florida congressman said about the incident in 2014.

The Washington Examiner published new details about Biden's drug addiction. In 1988, the son of the former vice president, then an 18-year-old, had his record expunged from an incident involving "a controlled substance." The newly uncovered incident happened when his father, Joe Biden, was pushing for harsher drug laws in the Senate.
