ECB to form digital currency task force as Lagarde calls for EU action on green finance

Christine Lagarde made no surprise announcements in her first monetary policy announcement as president of the European Central Bank, keeping interest rates at their record low levels.

But she did signal that the ECB’s forthcoming strategic review of its policy framework would be a wide-ranging exercise, in her press conference today (December 12). She said the ECB would convene a task force on creating a central bank-issued digital currency, or “digital euro”, which should report in mid-2020.

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde has been convicted over her role in a controversial €400m (£355m) payment to a businessman.

French judges found Ms Lagarde guilty of negligence for failing to challenge the state arbitration payout to the friend of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The 60-year-old, following a week-long trial in Paris, was not given any sentence and will not be punished.

Lithuania’s central bank notes national CBDC projects will not solve global payment inefficiencies

A co-ordinated approach from central banks is needed to understand the potential of a multicurrency central bank digital currency (CBDC), research from the Central Bank of Lithuania claims.

In an extensive report detailing the progress of CBDC development around the world, the Baltic central bank says the “little-researched idea” of a multi-currency CBDC “deserves more consideration”.

Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani was on a roll Sunday afternoon and dropped bombshells revealing a huge Ukrainian money laundering operation involving Obama-era officials and the Biden crime family.

“Much more to come” Giuliani said Sunday concluding that Democrats’ impeachment for innocent conduct is intended to obstruct investigations of Obama-era corruption.

Giuliani also stated the the sham impeachment against Trump is intended to cover for the DNC’s collusion with Ukraine during the 2016 election “to destroy candidate Trump.”

A Trump supporter managed to get the microphone at a Bernie Sanders event in Iowa this weekend. He didn’t cause a major disruption, but the Bernie supporters didn’t seem to appreciate his message.

The man claimed that he voted for Bernie in the last election but has since changed his mind.

A Trump supporter took center stage at an Iowa campaign event for 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Saturday, where he stood up and delivered a message to President Trump.

Sanders sensed trouble from the beginning when he saw the young man approach the microphone and said, “Oh, he’s looking at his phone. I’m in trouble.”

After being given the mic to ask Sanders a question, the man addressed the commander in chief directly, offering him words of encouragement.

“Mr. Trump, keep going man. You’re doing a good job,” he said. “You know what, I’m a liberal.”…

“You can laugh all you want,” he shouted. “Donald Trump is helping our country. All right? He’s a good man… Socialism does not work.”
