Halp.

What is the significance of registering as a R or D or independent etc in America?

Just read about CA DMV changing voter reg details on renewed licenses.

What does that mean in terms of voting on the day?

Ausfag here.

Compulsory voting.

Don’t vote - get fined.

Haha.

THE DONKEY VOTE

No, nothing to do with Dems.

Voting is compulsory in Australia.

If you don’t vote you are fined.

When you go to vote they have lists of names in the areas where you are allowed to vote.

They don’t ask for ID but they want your name and address and you are crossed off the list as having voted.

You are given forms and sent off to vote.

On one occasion I was questioned over having voted twice but it turned out to be the fault of the “crosser-offerer” and I was cleared.

On another occasion I was working and clean forgot as I had a deadline for work.

Cost me $75.00.

Now… the Donkey Vote… given we HAVE to vote, sometimes some of us just deposit the forms unmarked, sometimes they are graffitied, sometimes abuse is hurled.

Reasons can range from don’t know, to don’t care, to I’m not voting for any of those mongrels.

THIS is called a donkey vote.

Me?

Have I ever done a donkey vote?

No!

Never!

Horror!

Well, maybe once when I was young.
