Michigan voters held signs that said, “Keep Trump” and “Impeach Slotkin.”

Democrats changed the rules, stacked the hearings with second-hand and third-hand witnesses, blocked Republicans from their day of witnesses, cut off Republicans from any decisions or requested witnesses, blocked Republicans and the White House from interviewing their original “whistleblower” Eric Ciaramella who is linked to Schiff, John Brennan, Susan Rice and Joe Biden.

Democrats blocked the White House from confronting their accuser, interrogating their accuser and providing witnesses – a basic right of every American citizen.

The abuse from the Judiciary Committee continued as the panel released a 169-page report in the dead of the night Monday alleging President Trump committed criminal bribery and wire fraud.

The report taunted President Trump with a prison threat and stated that the federal wire fraud statute imposes a 20 year prison sentence.

Reporting for Popular Science (via pocket), Eleanor Cummins calls the actions of these CEOs “an important bellwether — a sign of problems consumers may not even know they’re facing.” According to Cummins:

From tobacco to food manufacturing to social media, executives and insiders are subtly sounding the alarm in actions, if not in words. Their behaviors provide insight not just into the risks of certain consumer products to children, but to adults, too….

Plenty of executives believe wholeheartedly in products that are clearly dangerous or, at best, a waste of money (think supplements, activated charcoal, or fad diets). But…many more executives use their insider knowledge to make different personal choices than the ones they promote to the public. Like the canaries in the coal mines of their own creation, when the CEO squawks, we should listen.

The following are some striking examples:

(1) High tech and social media:

The late Steve Jobs, who founded Apple Inc., forebade his kids to use the iPad or any other product their dad invented. According to a 2014 report by Nick Bilton of The New York Times, and Walter Isaacson, author of the definitive biography Steve Jobs, Jobs’ family was low-tech. Jobs said his children “haven’t used it [the iPad]. We limit how much technology our kids use at home.” Every night, the family had a phone-free dinner together, and his children were not “addicted at all to devices.”

Another software executive said he’d “seen the dangers of technology firsthand,” from bullying to tech addiction, and wanted to protect his children from those experiences.

In 2017, Microsoft founder Bill Gates revealed he had both age and habit-related rules for his three children. Gates told The Mirror: “We don’t have cellphones at the table when we are having a meal. We didn’t give our kids [cell phones] until they were 14 and they complained other kids got them earlier.” Gates said that although smartphones and related devices were useful for “homework and staying in touch with friends,” they had the potential for “excess.”

Mike McCue, founder of Flipboard, said of social media during a 2017 appearance on the Recode Decode podcast: “It’s like if you ate potato chips all day long. You have to have a balanced information diet. There’s nothing wrong with looking at Facebook. If that’s all you do then you’re just going to be a product of that.”

Qatari officials pledged the money in 2011 to mark the 65th birthday of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton’s husband, and sought to meet the former U.S. president in person the following year to present him the check, according to an email from a foundation official to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta. The email, among thousands hacked from Podesta’s account, was published last month by WikiLeaks.

Israel wants $150bn compensation for Jews who left Arab countries

Israel is preparing to claim a total of $150 billion in compensation for the property of Jews who migrated from Arab countries to occupied Palestine, Israel Today has reported.

The process of estimating the property values started in 2002, the newspaper pointed out. It noted that the law to claim compensation for Arab Jews was passed by the Israeli parliament in 2010 as a condition of a regional peace deal; negotiations began with the Arab countries in 2017.

According to media reports, the compensation claimed will include assets from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya. In January, Israel was reportedly planning to seek an estimated $250 billion from Arab countries after the government in Tel Aviv quietly conducted some research on the value of property and assets that the Jews left behind.

Justice for Jews from Arab Countries, an international parent group of Jewish organisations, claims that around 856,000 Jews from 10 Arab countries — including Algeria and Lebanon — fled or were expelled during the 1948 Nakba, when 800,000 Palestinians were expelled and 532 villages were destroyed by the creation of the State of Israel.

According to Russian broadcaster RT, former British MP George Galloway denounced the Israeli move for compensation. “Israel bombed and destroyed the nuclear reactors in Iraq some 25-30 years ago. Is Iraq going to be compensated by Israel for that?” the pro-Palestinian Galloway asked. “Israel occupied and has annexed a part of Syria — the Golan Heights — and it is harvesting oil there as we speak. Is Israel going to compensate Syria for that?”

Citing Libya and Iran as examples, he added that some of these countries have got funds frozen in the United Sates. “Israel could seek to claim these funds by going to US courts. The whole thing would be laughable if it were not for this fact.”

In the coming weeks, said Maan News Agency, it is expected that the compensation project will be presented to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Internet Blocked as Protests Intensify in Northeast India against the Citizenship Amendment Act

Soon after India finalized the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on 12 December 2019 to allow refugees of six different faiths from the neighbouring Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, violent protests opposing the Act erupted in the northeastern states of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya. While the Act has been criticized for anti-Muslim bias, most in Assam have been protesting it for fear that it will open the door to Hindu refugees from Bangladesh, and affect the local language and culture.

At least three protesters have died in suspected police firing. Protesters in major cities of Assam and Tripura have been flaming torches and setting car tires and cardboards ablaze. The internet has been blocked since 11 December in Assam and Meghalaya.

The amended Act segregates the identification of refugees on the basis of their faith. It adds new clauses to the 1955 Citizenship Act allowing the Indian State to provide citizenship to six communities — Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Parsis and Sikhs — who are fleeing from religious and minority persecution from India’s three neighboring countries. Assam is a province with 33 million people with multiple ethnicities — including many indigenous ones — and religions. Among many other complexities and historical incidents that have led to this protest is Assam Accord, a 1985 Memorandum of Settlement that provided a framework on how to deal with immigrants from Bangladesh.

What is the Assam Accord?

Assam saw a massive influx of refugees from Bangladesh since its formation in 1947 through the 1950s until the 1980s. From 1980–1984, the then Indian government led by Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress (INC) party engaged with those who were protesting against this influx. After the assassination of Gandhi in 1984, the Indian government led by Rajeev Gandhi initiated a Memorandum of Settlement that was signed in the presence of parties from both the federal and provincial governments and representatives from the protesting unions. The Accord brought the six-year-long Assam Movement to an end which arose with a goal to identify and expel refugees from Bangladesh. The Accord made it clear that any refugee irrespective of their religious faiths who entered India before 31 December 1965 would be given citizenship and the ones who entered after this date would be illegal. The ongoing protests in Assam also highlight the alleged violation of this Accord since the recently passed Citizenship (Amendment) Act now legalizes the aforementioned refugees who entered India before 31 December 2014.

US Says They ‘Had To’ Bomb Afghanistan Hospital to Get Taliban

Construction site was badly damaged in heavy fighting

Pentagon officials are trying to spin the aftermath of Wednesday’s Bagram attack, in which US airstrikes did major damage to an under renovation hospital near the air base. They are now saying they had no choice but to bomb the hospital to get the Taliban.

The attack saw the Taliban use a suicide car bomb to force their way onto the site, and they dug in defensively for a 10 hour battle. Airstrikes were clearly the most convenient way for the US to kill those Taliban, but given the damage inflicted, it may not have been the most ideal for the construction project.

That’s why the Pentagon is now so eager to blame the Taliban for what happened, which is a go-to reaction, but very much beside the point. The Afghanistan Papers reports about failures in US reconstruction in Afghanistan, after all, wasn’t just lacking a scapegoat. The inability to construct sites without getting the unbearable urge to airstrike them is part and parcel to why nothing ever gets built in US-occupied Afghanistan.

Moreover, the problems don’t stop at the destruction of the site. The Pentagon emphasized how valuable to hospital would’ve eventually been to locals, but it was built right on the outskirts of a US military base, which probably wasn’t the most convenient for the locals, and also made the site a particular target for the Taliban to occupy, and one for US forces to airstrike.

The first US response was to further delay the peace process by pausing the Doha talks to protest the attack, and the second response is to blame the Taliban for the damage done. Neither of these is a solution to a problem, and rather reflect why the Afghan War has gone on so long with no progress.

Judiciary panel explains impeachment charges: 'Trump has realized the Framers' worst nightmare'

The House Judiciary Committee laid out the impeachment charges against President Trump in a report released early Monday explaining the sense of urgency that lawmakers say is necessary in addressing Trump’s alleged misconduct.

The Democratic-controlled committee approved two articles of impeachment last week in a party-line vote, charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

“Taken together, the articles charge that President Trump has placed his personal, political interests above our national security, our free and fair elections, and our system of checks and balances,” the committee wrote in the 658-page report. “He has engaged in a pattern of misconduct that will continue if left unchecked.”

The committee argues that Trump’s alleged solicitation of foreign interference in the 2020 election, and his administration’s subsequent attempt to block the House investigation, rises to the level of impeachment as laid out by the nation’s founder.

“President Trump has realized the Framers' worst nightmare,” the committee wrote.

Moreover, the committee explains the urgency ahead of next year’s election, arguing that Trump “has fallen into a pattern of behavior” of soliciting foreign interference in elections and “will almost certainly continue on this course.”

The committee, without mentioning Rudy Giuliani by name, wrote that Trump’s personal attorney traveled back to Ukraine to “promote the sham investigations into the president’s political rivals” and reported to the White House during the same week the articles, centered on similar actions, were written.

“We cannot rely on the next election as a remedy for presidential misconduct when the President is seeking to threaten the very integrity of that election,” the committee wrote. “We must act immediately.”

The report also includes a detailed account of the witness testimony on Trump’s communications with Ukraine.

Democrats allege Trump withheld foreign aid to the country in return for Ukraine announcing an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden, a possible presidential rival in the 2020 election.

In dissenting views, Republicans accuse Democrats of an unfair process and claim the inquiry did not conclude that the president committed any impeachable offenses.

“The majority's actions are unprecedented, unjustifiable and will only dilute the significance of the dire recourse that is impeachment,” wrote Rep. Doug Collins (Ga.), the committee's top Republican. “The ramifications for future presidents are not difficult to surmise."

Google Maps is a very popular and useful mapping service that you can have right now. From helping us with our daily commute, saving our asses in new places, getting traffic updates, it does it all.

You can judge its success by the fact that China, which has banned almost every Google product, allows Google Maps to exist on its soil. Of course, Google has to agree on a lot of terms.

Anyway, one of the core elements that make Google Maps are tons of images, and to source them, the search giant does what not?

Google sources HD satellite images from various providers. So far, around 36 million square miles of satellite imagery has been added to Google Earth. Now, here’s the interesting part: these images cover the areas where almost 98% of the earth’s total population lives.

Then there is Street View that gives us an idea of how different places look like in real life. To capture these, Google uses special camera rigs called Trekkers that are fitted on cars, humans, boats, and even camels and flocks of sheep. All of this is to add Street View images of areas where cars can’t go.

After creating a mountainous pile of digital photos, Google uses a technique called photogrammetry to stitch the images together to create a seamless experience for the users.

Once again, Russia is suffering from the tainted judgment of non-transparent Western institutions, this time from the World Anti-Doping Agency, which just banned Russia from all international sporting events. The reason for the arbitrary judgment should surprise no one.

The globalists certainly never banked on Russia rising so fast and furious from the ruins of the Soviet Union to the point where it is now in the position to deter Western intrigues around the world.

This was witnessed first and foremost in the miraculously recovering hot-spot of Syria – which, unlike the tragic fate that awaited doomed countries like Ukraine, Iraq and Libya – managed at the 11th hour to escape the jaws of NATO’s regime-change juggernaut. Syria’s salvation was due overwhelmingly to Russian military and diplomatic intervention.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who was meeting with Donald Trump in side of the Oval Office when the WADA decision was made public, couldn’t resist taking some cracks at members of Congress who predictably criticized the high-ranking Russian delegation being invited to the White House.

“If [Adam] Schiff can describe the ministerial-level contacts normal to any country and my meeting with the president in such a way, then I believe that they will soon accuse our diplomats, just as they have our athletes, of doping and call for criminal punishment,” Lavrov told reporters.

Although it is certainly a positive sign to see one of the highest ranking Kremlin officials respond to these ongoing attacks against Russia in a tongue-in-cheek manner, fully aware of the derangement syndrome that is motivating them, there can be no doubt that such actions against Russia are being viewed in Moscow as passive forms of very real aggression that cannot go unchallenged forever.

In other words, the world should be very wary of the other shoe dropping when that shoe belongs to a nuclear-armed military power whose patience must be wearing very thin.

New Simple Test Could Detect Dangerous Levels of Fluoride in Drinking Water

Northwestern University synthetic biologists developed a simple, inexpensive new test that can detect dangerous levels of fluoride in drinking water.

With one drop of water, test detects fluoride levels that exceed EPA standards

Test costs pennies to make, is easy to read and requires no expertise to use

Method works by using an RNA riboswitch, which flips when fluoride is not present

Researchers tested device in Costa Rica, where fluorosis has been reported

Costing just pennies to make, the system only needs a drip and a flick: Drip a tiny water droplet into a prepared test tube, flick the tube once to mix it and wait. If the water turns yellow, then an excessive amount of fluoride — exceeding the EPA’s most stringent regulatory standards — is present.

This method is starkly different from current tests, which cost hundreds of dollars and often require scientific expertise to use.

The researchers tested the system both in the laboratory at Northwestern and in the field in Costa Rica, where fluoride is naturally abundant near the Irazu volcano. When consumed in high amounts over long periods of time, fluoride can cause skeletal fluorosis, a painful condition that hardens bones and joints.

Americans tend to think of the health benefits of small doses of fluoride that strengthen teeth. But elsewhere in the world, specifically across parts of Africa, Asia and Central America, fluoride naturally occurs at levels that are dangerous to consume.

“In the United States, we hear about fluoride all the time because it’s in toothpaste and the municipal water supply,” said Northwestern’s Julius Lucks, who led the project. “It makes calcium fluoride, which is very hard, so it strengthens our tooth enamel. But above a certain level, fluoride also hardens joints. This mostly isn’t an issue in the U.S. But it can be a debilitating problem in other countries if not identified and addressed.”

Lucks is an associate professor of chemical and biological engineering in the McCormick School of Engineering and a member of Northwestern’s Center for Synthetic Biology. The work was performed in collaboration with Michael Jewett, professor of chemical and biological engineering in McCormick and director of the Center for Synthetic Biology. Graduate students Walter Thavarajah, Adam Silverman and Matthew Verosloff spearheaded the research.

Field test success

Fluoride is a naturally occurring element, which can seep out of bedrock into groundwater. Also found in volcanic ash, fluoride is particularly abundant in regions surrounding volcanoes.

Home to three volcanic range systems, Costa Rica seemed like a natural place to test the device in the field. Matthew Verosloff, a Ph.D. candidate in Lucks’ laboratory, traveled to Costa Rica and sampled various water samples — from mud puddles, ponds and ditches.

Disgust continues to swell over a “Christmas special” on Netflix depicting Jesus Christ as a closeted homosexual, with Bishop Joseph Strickland of Texas joining almost two million others in speaking out against it. Released on December 3, The First Temptation of Christ comes from the Brazilian comedy troupe Porta dos Fundos, and depicts Jesus bringing a boyfriend to meet Mary and Joseph at His birthday party. Last year, the group reportedly depicted Jesus as a “sadistic, homicidal, hedonistic drunkard who hated to pray and no one heeded,” according to historian Murilo Cleto.

As of the time of this writing, a Change.org petition calling on Netflix to remove the film has gathered more than 1.8 million signatures.

Greece proposes “war on cash”, forcing citizens to spend at least 30 percent of their income electronically

Greece’s new government will next year begin forcing citizens to spend at least 30 percent of their income electronically, or face penalties.

The Sydney Morning Herald calls these “hefty fines”: 22 percent on whatever the difference is between the target 30 percent, and the percentage of their income that citizens had actually spent electronically.

As the website calculated, workers who earn 1,000 euros a month but spend only half the goal – 15 percent – electronically will have to pay a fine of 400 euros a year.

The drastic step is explained as the need to fix the county’s shadow economy – i.e., the portion that is not monitored by the government and is untaxed – in order to bring more revenues to the state coffers.

The Greek government expects to win either way: by collecting more taxes as spending is channeled to where the government can see it and impose VAT, or by collecting fines from those who fail to meet the goal. The government hopes to rake in 500 million euros every year in this way, out of the estimated 16 billion it loses through tax evasion.

This is a new and radical take on the “war on cash” – a policy promoted by many countries around the world, seeking to suppress the use of cash in order to allow tax administrations to track citizens. The loss of financial privacy and high potential for abuse in terms of surveillance and civil liberties violations is often cited by those opposed to the trend.

And now the Greek government is bringing to the table an the element of enforcement and significant monetary fines for those resistant to switching to electronic transactions.

The article suggests some citizens who are now a part of the shadow economy will find it objectively difficult to spend 30 percent of their income electronically in a country that has the lowest internet usage rate in the EU – only 72 percent of the population.

Banks have been enlisted to report to the authorities on the citizens’ spending compliance. None of this, of course, will apply to those Greek workers who still receive their wages in cash – and according to the article, these are “many.”

Hundreds of Jihadists Execute History’s Deadliest Attack on Niger Military

Jihadists killed 71 soldiers in a terrorist attack on a remote military camp in Niger close to the border with Mali, an army spokesman confirmed on Wednesday, in what was the deadliest attack on the military in the country’s history.

In an announcement on state television, army spokesman Colonel Boubacar Hassan confirmed that several hundred jihadists launched the attack on Tuesday evening over a period of around three hours at the army base in the western town of Inates.

“The combat (was) of rare violence, combining artillery shells and the use of kamikaze vehicles by the enemy,” he said.

Hassan added that a further 12 soldiers were wounded and an unspecified number of others were missing, while a “significant number” of militants were also killed. Anonymous sources told local media that 30 soldiers are still unaccounted for.

No organization has yet come forward to claim the killings, although it is suspected that terrorists from al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group (IS) were behind it, given how they have already carried out multiple attacks against troops in the Sahel region this year.

Who Is Missing In Action After IG Horowitz’s FISA Abuse Findings? The FISA Court.

The most important voice regarding the extensive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Application (FISA) abuse revealed by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz is missing in action. It’s the very secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

The court was founded in 1978, under the enactment of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It was created to authorize the “most intrusive surveillance techniques modern technology allows” and many contend it conflicts with the basic tenants of the Fourth Amendment, noted criminal defense and civil rights attorney David Schoen.

The FISA court power is so great that many civil libertarians and lawmakers have called for it to be either dismantled or completely reformed. Those calls to reform or end the FISA court have grown greater since Horowitz released his 435 page report this week, revealing 17 gross violations, which included withholding exculpatory information, altering documents and basically lying to the court happened in the case of Trump foreign policy campaign advisor Carter Page.

Those violations against Page were initiated by former FBI Director James Comey’s Crossfire Hurricane Team and Horowitz’s scathing report on the team was reminiscent of the J. Edgar Hoover era, where the bureau’s spying on American citizens was rampant.

Page’s life was turned upside down when the Crossfire Hurricane team. Other FBI agents and sources associated with the FISA against Page, leaked erroneous stories about the Trump campaign volunteer to the media, in an effort to create a narrative that the Trump campaign conspired with Russia. It, of course, was all based on a foundation of lies.

What has been missing say civil libertarians and legal scholars is accountability at the court level. In March, 2020 FISA will be back up for reauthorization. It is expected to face scrutiny from both Republicans and Democrats with the intelligence community lobbying for its necessity in the war against terror and enemy state actors.

However, with the IG report making clear that the system was abused to surveil Page. The bigger question is was Page the only one? Or is Page one of possibly many that had their rights abused or were used to weaponize the system against opponents by federal authorities.

The next step, should be a full investigation of FISA applications submitted to the court. It must be a deep dive into what appears to be incredible malfeasance by the FBI.

“The Court itself has been far too silent,” said Schoen. “What action will it now take, given the IG’s finding concerning the abuses of the process that occurred here. There is a FISA Court of Review that also was created in 1978 and it was created expressly to review the actions of the lower FISA Court. The Court has the power on its own to convene hearings into the violation of its rules and to take actions against transgressors. But will it take action, remains the question.

Horowitz identified in his report, 51 Woods procedure violations from the FISA application that was submitted from the FBI on Page beginning in October 2016.

“Supporting document shows that the factual assertion is inaccurate,” said the Horowitz report regarding nine of the violations. Basically, the FBI lied nine times to the court in the applications to get permission to spy on Page.

Ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes, R-CA, warned that the breach of trust with the American people is so great that the FISA court’s very survival is in peril if the Justice’s don’t take action soon.

“They ran people into Trump campaign officials over and over and over again and so when you hear [former FBI director] James Comey talk about his mosaic, that’s what it was,” Nunes told Fox News. “It was the Democrats’ dirt followed by fake news, followed by spies that they ran against Trump campaign officials and then they decided, even though there was exculpatory evidence, not to turn it over to the [FISA] court.”

“The FISA court has to either be shut down in its entirety or they have to take action and soon, ” Nunes added.

British Election Heralds Collapse of United Kingdom

Boris Johnson is entitled to crack open a few bottles of champagne after being re-elected prime minister, with his Conservative party winning a landslide majority. But when the celebrations are over, Britain is facing a thumping hangover – from the inescapable fact that half of the United Kingdom is now on an irrevocable path of separatism and independence.

Johnson has won a decisive mandate to “get Brexit done”, at least from London’s perspective. His party now has a substantial parliamentary majority of 80 seats in the House of Commons which will ensure delivery on his promise to execute Britain’s departure from the European Union on January 31. The actual final severance will take another year or two to complete because of negotiations between London and Brussels to definitively hammer out divorce terms. But at least Johnson can claim that he has consummated the final journey to leave the EU on January 31, a journey which began over three years ago when Britons had originally voted for Brexit in the 2016 referendum.

However, crucially, the Conservative government’s mandate for Brexit only applies to England and Wales. It was in these two countries that saw the significant swing of voters from the opposition Labour party to Johnson’s Tories. Thus, in effect, his parliamentary majority stems from voters in England and Wales.

By total contrast, in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the other two regions which make up the United Kingdom, the voters resoundingly rejected Johnson’s Brexit plans and voted for parties wanting to remain in the European Union. The outcome is consistent with the 2016 referendum results when Scotland and Northern Ireland both voted against Brexit.

Moreover, the latest election results have reinforced the call for independence in both Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Scottish Nationalists swept the election to enhance their already existing majority. They now control nearly 90 per cent of all seats in Scotland. Party leader Nicola Sturgeon says there is an unquestionable mandate to hold a second referendum for Scottish independence. The previous independence referendum held in 2014 was defeated. But Scottish nationalists claim that popular support for their cause has surged since the Brexit referendum in 2016. The Scots, by and large, do not want to leave the EU. To remain in the EU therefore necessarily means separating from the United Kingdom and its central government in London.

Boris Johnson has so far rejected calls for holding a second Scottish independence referendum. But his position is untenable. Given the parliamentary numbers for separation stacking up in Scotland, he will have to relent. Nationalists there are demanding the holding of another plebiscite as early as next year.
