If the Senate refuses to have a real trial why should the House send the impeachment over?

Given that Trump will be acquitted in the Senate no matter what, the whole point of the House proceedings should be to gather as much information as they can until they have exhausted all resources. Democrats want to be able to make the strongest case possible for impeachment, and barring removal, they want to establish that there was wrongdoing so egregious that it hurts not only Trump's reelection chances but also the chances of any Republicans in competitive seats who defend him.

New Impeachment Poll Contains Nothing But Bad News for Democrats

By a six-point margin (45/51), Americans oppose impeachment and conviction. When the 'investigate but don't impeach' avenue is presented, the data shifts even more decisively against Democrats' current path. Just 41 percent of voters favor that course of action, with 56 percent wanting a different outcome, a 15-point anti-removal majority. Indeed, slightly more respondents would prefer to see Congress drop their investigations into Trump altogether than to eject him from the White House. Independents are against removal by 11 points.

Only American to lead FBI and CIA says Trump presents 'dire threat' to country

The former director of the FBI and the CIA assailed President Trump and Attorney General William Barr’s attacks on the bureau, calling it “dangerous and unwarranted.”

Last week, Trump suggested he lacked confidence in his own FBI director, Christopher Wray, and Barr said he disagreed with the finding of a report by the Justice Department watchdog, who concluded the FBI lawfully opened its Russia investigation.

“The aspersions cast upon them by the president and my longtime friend, Attorney General William P. Barr, are troubling in the extreme,” William Webster, 95, who was director of the FBI from 1978 to 1987 and the CIA from 1987 to 1991, wrote in a scathing opinion article for the New York Times.
