It's called "new age" ideology because, although there are differing views on some subjects, the common thread is that we are moving into a "new age" of ascension, spiritual enlightenment, or the next stage of evolution. Not because it's ideas are "new".

It's about a personal relationship with God. That is why Jesus died to pay for sin. To break down what kept man and God separated. God being Holy and Perfect could have nothing to do with sinful man. Through Jesus we can be pure, the bonds of sin broken, the walls torn down, and direct access to God granted. No need for "religion" or leaders or gurus.
