Search launched for missing 19-year-old soldier near Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. - An intensive search is underway for a missing 19-year-old active-duty soldier who was last seen Wednesday inside Fort Worden State Park near Port Townsend, police said.
The missing soldier, identified as Devin Mitchell Schmidt, 19, is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and has ties to the Port Townsend area, said Sgt. Troy Surber of the Port Townsend police.
Schmidt's personal effects were located in a wooded area of Fort Worden near the bunkers at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, and he failed to report for duty at 6 a.m. Thursday.
