Google Fined 167 Million Euros By France For Engaging in Anti-Competitive Behavior

Google has been fined $167 million by France’s competition authority for engaging in “anti-competitive behavior” and unclear advertising on the Google Ads page.

Google is already paying close to 1 billion euros to French authorities as the result of a fiscal fraud probe.

Isabelle de Silva, the head of the French competition authority, said during a press conference that Google’s dominance in the online advertising business was “extraordinary”, according to a report from Reuters.

Earlier this year, the nation also imposed a 3 percent tax on companies that provide digital services. President Donald Trump has argued that their rules are unfairly singling out American companies. In response, the administration has threatened tariffs on $2.4 billion in French goods, including wine and cheese.

France’s data protection watchdog also fined Google 50 million Euros in January for violating European Union online privacy rules.

“The French watchdog stated in that January ruling that Google lacked transparency and clarity in the way it informed users about its handling of personal data, and had failed to properly obtain their consent for personalized ads,” Reuters reports.

Google has said that they will be appealing the latest fine.

MPs pass Johnson’s EU withdrawal bill, paving way for January 31 Brexit

UK MPs have voted to pass PM Boris Johnson’s amended EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB), which sets the stage for an almost-certain Brexit on January 31 — and prevents any extension of the transition period beyond December 2020.

A previous version of the bill said that the post-Brexit transition period could be prolonged by mutual agreement for up to two years, but with Johnson’s Conservative Party now commanding such a large post-election majority in the House of Commons, that concession to the anti-Brexit opposition could be removed.

The bill was passed comfortably by 358 to 234 votes.

The Labour Party did not support the bill, with leader Jeremy Corbyn describing it as a “battering ram” to drive Britain down a path toward “more deregulation” and a “toxic” trade deal with the Trump administration.

The government also removed clauses from the bill which had promised alignment with the EU on workers' rights, saying that they would be protected and "enhanced" under a domestic employment bill.

MPs also passed the "programme motion" for the bill — the government's timetable to push the bill through its final stages in January. The programme motion passed by 353 votes to 243.

Parliament will now break for Christmas and the Brexit bill will return on January 7 when MPs will debate it for another week before voting again and passing the legislation into the House of Lords.

If all goes according to Johnson's plan, the UK will legally leave the European Union on January 31, after which point trade negotiations between London and Brussels will begin.

Before the Friday vote, Johnson asked the public to shed the divisive labels of "leave" and "remain" as Britain starts to “move on” as “one reinvigorated nation.”

"Now is the moment to come together and write a new and exciting chapter in our national story, to forge a new partnership with our European friends, to stand tall in the world, to begin the healing for which the whole people of this country yearn,” he told MPs.

Yet, despite the hopeful language, Britain’s future relationship with the EU remains unclear and analysts have predicted “years” of wrangling over trade, despite Johnson’s optimistic assurances that a deal can be brokered by December 2020.

There is also still no certainty for Brits on what a trade deal with the US could look like, with many still concerned that a deal with the Trump administration could put the NHS at risk from predatory American health corporations.

KY Gov. Proudly Defends Decision to Pardon Multiple Convicted Child Rapists, Murderers

Kentucky — On his way out of office, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin dropped a huge batch of pardons and commutations of sentences of hundreds of Kentuckians. While some of these people were rotting in jail for weed convictions or other victimless crimes, many of the pardons consisted of violent criminals and child rapists.

Some of the people on the governor’s list of pardons include Blake Walker, who was convicted in 2003 of killing his parents; Kurt Smith, who as a teenager was found guilty of murdering his 6-week old son; Delmar Partin, who was convicted of beheading a woman and stuffing her in a barrel; Kathy Ann Harless, who left her newborn baby to die in an outhouse; Dayton Jones, who was convicted in 2016 of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy; Patrick Baker, who convicted of reckless homicide in 2017; Paul Donel Hurt, who was serving a life sentence for sexually abusing and sodomizing a 6-year-old girl; Doug Phelps, who pleaded guilty to child porn, and Micah Schoettle, convicted last year of raping a child and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Doubling down on his decision to pardon these violent criminals and child rapists, Bevin went on the radio this week to defend his decision. He focused in on the child rapist Schoettle to make his case. Referring to the rapist’s 9-year-old victim and her sister, Bevin said that because their hymens were intact, no rape took place.

“Both their hymens were intact. This is perhaps more specific than people would want, but trust me. If you have been repeatedly sexually violated as a small child by an adult, there are going to be repercussions of that physically and medically,” Bevin said.

No one here is arguing that some folks don’t deserve second chances and that innocent people go to jail all the time, but pardoning a man convicted for raping a 9-year-old girl “because her hymen was intact” is horrifyingly stupid.

The former governor is now under fire from forensic experts and scientists — and rightfully so — who aptly noted that scientists have debunked the notion that inspecting a child’s hymen can prove whether they were sexually assaulted. What’s more, experts have found that most survivors of child sexual abuse do not have any physical damage.

“Bevin’s claim is flatly incorrect,” Dr. George Nichols, who was Kentucky’s chief medical examiner for 20 years and who later started the child abuse evaluation system at Kosair Children’s Hospital, told The Courier Journal.

“Rape is not proved by hymen penetration,” Nichols said. “Rape is proved by phallic penetration … where the vaginal lips meet the outer surface of the vagina.

“He not only doesn’t know the law, in my humble opinion, he clearly doesn’t know medicine and anatomy.”

Nichols added that he worked for six consecutive governors as chief medical examiner, “and fortunately I didn’t have to report to that a–hole.”

The Final Act

In processing the flow of information about the goings on in the US, it is impossible to get rid of a most unsettling sense of unreality - of a population trapped in a dark cave filled with little glowing screens, all displaying different images yet all broadcasting essentially the same message. That message is that everything is fine, same as ever, and can go on and on. But whatever it is that’s going on can’t go on forever, and therefore it won’t. More specifically, a certain coal mine canary has recently died, and I want to tell you about it.

t’s easy to see why that particular message is stuck on replay even as the situation changes irrevocably. As of 2019, 90% of the media in the United States is controlled by four media conglomerates: Comcast (via NBCUniversal), Disney, ViacomCBS (controlled by National Amusements), and AT&T (via WarnerMedia). Together they have formed a corporate media monoculture designed to most effectively maximize shareholder value.

As I wrote in Reinventing Collapse in 2008,

“…In a consumer society, anything that puts people off their shopping is dangerously disruptive, and all consumers sense this. Any expression of the truth about our lack of prospects for continued existence as a highly developed, prosperous industrial society is disruptive to the consumerist collective unconscious. There is a herd instinct to reject it, and therefore it fails, not through any overt action, but by failing to turn a profit because it is unpopular.”

Two years earlier, in a slideshow optimistically titled “Closing the Collapse Gap” (between the USSR and the USA), I wrote: “…It seems that there is a fair chance that the US economy will collapse sometime within the foreseeable future. It also would seem that we won’t be particularly well-prepared for it. As things stand, the US economy is poised to perform something like a disappearing act.” And now, 12 years later, I believe I am finally watching what amounts to preparations for that act’s final rehearsal; the ballet troupe is doing stretching exercises and the fat lady is singing arpegios to warm up…

Clearly, this final act is yet to be performed. The media replay loop continues to play, keeping the populace convinced that the future will resemble the past (except, perhaps, it will have more wind generators, solar panels and electric cars). The populace continues to be persuaded to go out and shop for (or, more frequently now, order online) things it doesn’t need, to be paid for by money it doesn’t have.

New York Authorities Charge 96 MS-13 Gang Members and Associates in Largest Take Down in New York State History – Declare Gang “Inoperable”

Somewhere Pelosi is shedding a tear because her dear MS-13 gang members in Suffolk County, New York have been declared “inoperable.”

New York Prosecutors took down nearly 100 MS-13 gang members and associates in the largest take down of a violent street gang in New York’s history.

MS-13 is a very violent El Salvadoran gang known for brutally murdering people, kidnapping and raping women and girls, extortion and terrorizing neighborhoods.

President Trump in 2017 was outraged after two teenage girls in Suffolk County were kidnapped and brutally murdered by MS-13 gang members.

“They kidnap, they extort, they rape and they rob. They prey on children, they shouldn’t be here,” Trump said when he visited Suffolk County in July 2017. “It’s time for every member of M-S-13 to be in fear. Look over their shoulder. Look in their rear view mirror, because ICE and its partners are comin’ hard, and we’re comin’ strong.”

Pelosi, however defended these monsters who rape and chop up young girls and said they have a “spark of divinity.”

Authorities plan to announce at a Friday afternoon press conference charges against 96 MS-13 gang members and associates in what’s described as the largest take down of the violent street gang in New York State history.

The two-year multi-agency investigation has thwarted seven alleged murder plots, prosecutors said.

The “operation has dealt significant blow to MS-13 leadership in Long Island,” according to the media advisory sent by a spokeswoman for Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini.

Netanyahu says ICC has ‘NO JURISDICTION’ to probe Israeli ‘war crimes’ in Palestine

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided it will launch a full-fledged probe into alleged war crimes in the Palestinian lands by Israel. In response, Tel Aviv has declared the court’s jurisdiction there null and void.

The looming probe was announced by the ICC’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on Friday. A preliminary investigation - opened back in 2015 - has concluded that there is enough data to open a full-scale one.

“I am satisfied that there is a reasonable basis to proceed with an investigation into the situation in Palestine,” Bensouda said in a statement. “I am satisfied that… war crimes have been, or are being, committed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.”

The announcement caused an explosive reaction in Tel Aviv, with the top politicians rushing to condemn it. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu – himself entangled in several domestic probes into alleged corruption – called the ICC move “a dark day for truth and justice.”

“The ICC prosecutor has decided not to dismiss outright the Palestinian claim against the State of Israel. It is a baseless and outrageous decision,” Netanyahu said in a statement, arguing that the court cannot probe alleged war crimes in Palestine altogether.

The court has no jurisdiction in this case. The ICC only has jurisdiction over petitions submitted by sovereign states. But there has never been a Palestinian state.

Christianity Today ‘Unmasked’ as Same ‘Liberal Evangelicals’ Who Voted for Hillary

Jerry Falwell, Jr. tweeted his criticism of Christianity Today for its editorial calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office, asserting the publication has revealed itself as the same “liberal evangelicals” who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“Less than 20% of evangelicals supported @HillaryClinton in 2016 but now @CTmagazinehas removed any doubt that they are part of the same 17% or so of liberal evangelicals who have preached social gospel for decades! CT unmasked!” posted Falwell, the president of Liberty University in Virginia.

On Thursday, the editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, a publication founded by evangelist Rev. Billy Graham, wrote that Trump “should be removed from office” because he is “profoundly immoral.”

Mark Galli chastised fellow evangelicals who have supported the president. Nothing positive Trump has done or accomplished, however, he says, is of any consequence given what he claims is the president’s “grossly immoral character.”

Galli further stated the Democrats partisan impeachment hearings “have made it absolutely clear, in a way the Mueller investigation did not, that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath.”

He added:

The impeachment hearings have illuminated the president’s moral deficiencies for all to see. This damages the institution of the presidency, damages the reputation of our country, and damages both the spirit and the future of our people. None of the president’s positives can balance the moral and political danger we face under a leader of such grossly immoral character.

Rev. Franklin Graham, Rev. Billy Graham’s son, responded to Christianity Today on Facebook, defending Trump.

“My father knew Donald Trump, he believed in Donald Trump, and he voted for Donald Trump,” Graham wrote on Facebook early Friday. “He believed that Donald J. Trump was the man for this hour in history for our nation.”

Falwell also tweeted that the Democrats’ impeachment of Trump “was their Pearl Harbor.”

“I told the crowd at the Palm Beach GOP Christmas/Hanukkah party tonight that I predict the 2020 election will be Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the Dems!” he said.

German Parliament Passes Resolution to Ban Terror Group Hezbollah

The German parliament has passed a non-binding resolution to encourage the government to ban the Lebanon-based Hezbollah terrorist group.

The Bundestag voted overwhelmingly for the resolution with no parties voting against the measure, although the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD), along with the Greens and the far-left Die Linke, abstained from voting, the Times of Israel reports.

The new resolution, which was backed by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democrats (SPD), which form the current government, stated that the German government must ban Hezbollah activity in Germany.

The decree calls on the government to impose “an activity ban against Hezbollah in order not to tolerate any activity in Germany by representatives of the organisation, which opposes the principle of international understanding”.

While Israeli Ambassador to Germany Jeremy Issacharoff along with Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz welcomed the resolution, others have been critical, including members of the AfD who had previously introduced a resolution to ban Hezbollah that failed to pass in the parliament earlier in the year.

Petr Bystron, who serves as Speaker of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) on the Foreign Policy Committee, said: “This is just a watered-down version of the bill the AfD submitted to outlaw Hezbollah on June 6th. Due to our constant pressure, the Merkel government has been forced to react. The result is a totally ineffective version, which falls short of a ban on this terror group.”

“Hezbollah membership will still be legal in Germany. So the AfD cannot support this bill. We will recommend our MPs abstain. The Merkel government is allowing Germany to become a major finance and recruiting centre for Islamic terror. This must stop,” he added.

Last month, German magazine Der Spiegel claimed that the government was preparing to ban Hezbollah, along with the public use of its symbols. The claims were later denied by an interior ministry spokesman.

United States Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell has also been a major proponent of banning Hezbollah in Germany, saying in November: “It is time to designate the Iran proxy Hezbollah a terrorist organisation throughout Europe.”

Grenell reacted to the new resolution on Thursday saying: “Huge Breaking News…. Thank you to our German partners!”

Diversity Cop Among Alleged ‘Asian’ Groomers Charged in Halifax, England

Sixteen men including a police officer have been charged with multiple offences related to three girls aged between 13 and 16 in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

The men, almost all of whom have names indicating a South Asian background, are charged with a swathe of crimes, from multiple counts of rape to trafficking and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, which they allegedly carried out between 2006 and 2009.

One of them, 35-year-old Amjad Ditta, also known as Amjad Hussain, is a police officer — currently suspended from duty — and confirmed by West Yorkshire Police to have been “a serving police officer at the time of [his] alleged offence in 2009”.

Ditta is an Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) attached to the force’s prestigious Protective Services (Operations) command.

He was appointed to the role of Positive Action Co-ordinator, responsible for increasing police force diversity, in 2016, according to a BBC report.

An official statement from West Yorkshire Police identifies the alleged groomers and lists their charges as follows:

Vaqaas Abbas, 30 of Halifax, charged with rape (x3) and supply of a class C drug (x3).

Nadeem Adalat, 34 of Halifax, charged with rape (x4) and supply of a class C drug (x4).

Sajid Adalat, 43 of Halifax, charged with rape.

Asad Mahmood, 33 of Halifax, charged with rape (x2) and trafficking.

Arfan Mir, also known as Khalifa Mughal, 36 of Halifax, charged with rape (x6), supply of a class C drug (x3), supply of a class A drug and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Younis Mohammed aka Younis Khan, 34 of Halifax, charged with rape and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Nadeem Nassir, 39 of Halifax, charged with rape, supply of a class C drug and making threats to kill.

Shahzad Nawaz, 40 of Halifax, charged with rape, supply of a class C drug and making threats to kill.

Shazad Nazir, 44 of Halifax, charged with rape (x2) and supply of a class C drug (x2).

Sohail Zafar, 36 of Halifax, charged with rape and supplying a class C drug.

The accused men, who are not known to have been convicted of any crimes at this time, will appear before Bradford Magistrates Court on January 6th 2020.

The Hidden Military Use of 5G Technology

At the London Summit, the 29 member countries of NATO agreed to “guarantee the security of our communications, including 5G”. Why is this fifth generation of mobile data transmission so important for NATO?

While the earlier technologies were perfected to create ever more advanced smartphones, 5G is designed not only to improve their performance, but mainly to link digital systems which need enormous quantities of data in order to work automatically. The most important 5G applications will not be intended for civil use, but for the military domain.

The possibilities offered by this new technology are explained by the Defense Applications of 5G Network Technology, published by the Defense Science Board, a federal committee which provides scientific advice for the Pentagon –

“The emergence of 5G technology, now commercially available, offers the Department of Defense the opportunity to take advantage, at minimal cost, of the benefits of this system for its own operational requirements”.

In other words, the 5G commercial network, built and activated by private companies, will be used by the US armed forces at a much lower expenditure than that necessary if the network were to be set up with an exclusively military goal. Military experts foresee that the 5G system will play an essential role for the use of hypersonic weapons – missiles, including those bearing nuclear warheads, which travel at a speed superior to Mach 5 (five times the speed of sound). In order to guide them on variable trajectories, changing direction in a fraction of a second to avoid interceptor missiles, it is necessary to gather, elaborate and transmit enormous quantities of data in a very short time. The same thing is necessary to activate defences in case of an attack with this type of weapon – since there is not enough time to take such decisions, the only possibility is to rely on 5G automatic systems.

This new technology will also play a key role in the battle network. With the capability of simultaneously linking millions of transceivers within a defined area, it will enable military personnel – departments and individuals – to transmit to one another, almost in real time, maps, photos and other information about the operation under way.

5G will also be extremely important for the secret services and special forces. It will enable control and espionnage systems which are far more efficient than those we use today. It will improve the lethality of killer drones and war robots by giving them the capacity of identifying, following and targeting people on the basis of facial recognition and other characteristics. The 5G network, as a weapon of high-tech capacity, will also become the target for cyber-attacks and war actions carried out with new generation weapons.

As well as the United States, this technology is under development by China and other countries. The international disagreement concerning 5G is therefore not only commercial. The military implications of 5G are almost entirely ignored, because the critics of this technology, including many scientists, are concentrating their attention on its toxic affects for health and the environement, due to exposure to very low-frequency electromagnetic fields. This engagement is of course of the greatest importance, but must be linked to research on the military use of this technology, financed indirectly by ordinary users. One of its greatest attractions, which favours the dissemination of 5G smartphones, will be the possibility of participating, by subscription, in war games of impressive realism in direct contact with players from all over the world. In this way, without realising it, the players will be financing the preparation for war – but this time it will be a real war.
