Health Care Industry Cleans Up On Capitol Hill In Massive Spending Bill

Health care lobbyists were able to convince Congress to add provisions to the new $1.4 trillion spending bill that offered their industry a substantial windfall and to block several initiatives that would cut into profits.

Through its lobbying efforts, the health care industry was able to convince both Democrats and Republicans to come together on measures that ensured generous tax breaks and greater profits for the industry, the Washington Post reported Friday.

While Republicans and Democrats clashed over impeachment throughout the week, political unity characterized the health care giveaway. A bipartisan campaign to end secret billing from medical practitioners was delayed for a year because of the efforts of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to the Post.

A bipartisan effort to reduce prescription drug prices was similarly blocked by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley.

Drug companies managed to secure extended patent protection that could result in windfall profits for the industry.

Surgeon accused of abusing hundreds of children in France's biggest-ever paedophilia case

A retired French surgeon may have raped or sexually abused as many as 349 children over the 30 years of his career, a prosecutor investigating the case said Friday.

This could be France's biggest-ever paedophilia case.

Joel Le Scouarnec, 68, is planned on trial in March for the rape and sexual abuse of four child victims.

The allegations against him three decades he practised in hospitals across central and western France.

Accusations include the rape a six-year-old girl living in his neighbourhood, the rape of a young relative and the sexual assault of another, the abuse of a child patient, and allegations of indecently exposing himself.

After charges were brought against him in these cases, investigators discovered secret diaries in which Le Scouarnec described sex scenes involving many more children.

The children were named, which has allowed the police to track them down to obtain their testimony. This, in turn, has led to additional charges.

Two days after impeachment, Pelosi invites Trump to deliver State of Union

Dec. 20 (UPI) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officially invited President Donald Trump to deliver the 2020 State of the Union address in a letter sent Friday, just days after the House voted to impeach him on two charges.

Pelosi's invitation to address the traditional joint session of Congress, while polite, contained several references to the U.S. Constitution, echoing some of the impassioned rhetoric about separation of powers made by Democratic House majority members before delivering their votes to impeach Trump on an abuse of power charge.

"In their great wisdom, our founders crafted a constitution based on a system of separation of powers: three co-equal branches acting as checks on each other," the letter read. "To ensure that balance of powers, the constitution calls for the president to 'from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union.'

The Gateway Pundit and Epoch Times Banned by Wikipedia Over Truthful Reporting on Ukraine and Russia Hoax

T. D. Adler at Breitbart News today reported the Wikipedia blacklists now include The Epoch Times and The Gateway Pundit for our truthful reporting on Russiagate.

China critics the Epoch Times and conservative outlet the Gateway Pundit have been banned from use as reliable sources on Wikipedia in the latest cases of news outlets that support President Trump being banned from the online encyclopedia. The Epoch Times ban proposal cited NBC’s hit piece on the site over its coverage of improprieties in the Russia investigation, commonly called Spygate, which prompted smear efforts against the outlet on Wikipedia. Gateway Pundit was proposed for a ban shortly after Epoch Times.

The Epoch Times Wikipedia ban proposal was apparently prompted by one of its articles being cited on the Wikipedia page for Joseph Mifsud, a key controversial figure in the origins of the discredited Russia investigation. Gateway Pundit’s ban was in response to the outlet being cited for past media silence over Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election.

FISA Court questions whether ‘information contained in other FBI applications is reliable’

Less than a week after Department of Justice Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz released his investigation detailing FBI misconduct in obtaining a FISA spy warrant on a Trump 2016 presidential campaign aide, the presiding judge of the FISA Court, Rosemary Collyer, issued a Four-Page Response Order on Dec. 17, 2019.

This unprecedented order by the FISA court condemned—and verified—ongoing wrongdoing by the FBI in the entire approach to the FISA process. Judge Collyer’s order also highlighted just how serious these breaches of conduct actually were, and the potential fallout that could result from the FBI’s actions.

Collyer noted that the FBI’s actions were so egregious that their behavior “calls into question whether information contained in other FBI applications is reliable.”

In the order, Collyer, who signed the original FISA application on Carter Page, said that the FBI “provided false information” and “withheld material information” from the Justice Department’s National Security Division (NSD) and in doing so “equally mislead” the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC). Worth noting is that Collyer highlights the fact that the FISC received two versions of the Inspector General’s report—the public version and the classified version.

New attack on Syrian oil fields was ‘too sophisticated’ for terrorist groups: source

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:40 P.M.) – A government source in the city of Damascus told Al-Masdar News on Saturday that the recent attack on the gas and oil fields in eastern Homs were most likely conducted by a foreign military or intelligence forces.

According to the source, the attacks on the Al-Rayyan Gas Field and other oil facilities in the Homs countryside were “too sophisticated” to be conducted by terrorist groups like the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh).

Furthermore, the source said the attack was conducted by sophisticated drones that managed to evade the Syrian military’s air defenses and carry out precise strikes on these facilities in the eastern countryside of Homs.

When asked why a foreign military would want to target these oil and gas fields, the source said that the U.S. and its allies are trying to prevent the Syrian government from accessing the country’s oil.

It should be mentioned that no group has claimed responsibility for this latest attack on these oil facilities.

Feng Xu amassed around 5,500 forged documents – including driving licences, bank statements, wage slips, utility bills and dozens of fake or fraudulent Chinese and Portuguese passports – to secure tenancy agreements on at least 446 properties, according to British police.

Emmanuel Macron says French forces killed more than 30 jihadists in Mali operation

Offensive comes just weeks after 13 French soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash as they were hunting down jihadists in the troubled country

President Emmanuel Macron said French forces had “neutralised” several dozen jihadists in Mali on Saturday, as he visited West Africa with a pledge to give new force to the battle against Islamist militants in the region.

The operation in the flashpoint city of Mopti in central Mali came just weeks after 13 French soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash as they were hunting down jihadists in the troubled country.

Macron said in a speech to the French community in Ivory Coast that 33 “terrorists” had been “neutralised”, a term a source close to the presidency said meant they had been killed.

French soldiers also released two Malian gendarmes being held by jihadists, he said.

“This considerable success shows the commitment of our forces, the support that we bring to Mali, to the region and to our own security,” he said.

ISLAMABAD: A Muslim professor was sentenced to death on Saturday by a Pakistani court for a blasphemous Facebook post, according to a media report.

Junaid Hafeez, who was a visiting lecturer at the department of English literature of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) in Multan city of Punjab province, was booked on blasphemy charges and was arrested by police on March 13, 2013.

At the US-Mexican border, migrants give up hope of crossing

Swedish justice ministry manipulated crime statistics – study

Sweden’s Ministry of Justice pressured the country’s Crime Prevention Council to hide, manipulate, or ignore potentially embarrassing crime statistics, a university study has found.

Sweden’s Crime Prevention Council (Brå) has a difficult task. In a country where media outlets omit police-circulated descriptions of suspects’ ethnicity, and the government actively downplays the surge in gun crime and bombings in its immigrant ghettoes, Brå is charged with compiling factual, accurate crime statistics.

According to a study published by Linköping University this week, the government intervenes here too to downplay “politically sensitive” data.

Employees told the university researchers that their managers – acting on orders from the country’s Justice Ministry – instructed them to manipulate results on “hot potato” issues. Presumably, these results were ones that could embarrass the government, and likely dealt with issues of race or immigration.

One interviewee stated that “methodological deficiencies” was the reason given for the change.

Brå’s own statistics show an upsurge in lethal violence since 2014, particularly among criminals and in disadvantaged and immigrant neighborhoods. They also show a sharp rise in sexual violence, assaults, threats and robbery since 2015, when the country welcomed more than 160,000 refugees and migrants – more per capita than any other European country.
