I think you've hit it on the head. RBG cannot be replaced while the matter of impeachment is before the Senate.

Someone was mentioning that there is (potentially) a way McConnell can force the matter earlier by reading the bill of impeachment from the Congressional Record on the Senate floor. He could then give her 24 hours (for instance) to have her case managers stand before the Senate.

Another Anon posted a slightly more devious reason which is, apparently, more in keeping with Pelosi's nature. There are cases floating around in the DC courts that can leverage the impeachment findings ... right up until they go before the Senate. It has to do with the House Judiciary Committee.

Keep in mind that Nancy and Chuck have been in DC FOREVER and know how to play the game.
