Because in most countries there needs to be a profit factor for the humantraffickers.
There is a difference between human smuggling and human trafficking.
Someone who helps people over the border of the US for free is a smuggler.
Someone who takes money and enslaves trafficked people is a human trafficker ..so there must be a profit in there.
