The best we can do in terms of understanding the progression of consciousness is based on history. History is that which is recorded. There is never one truth just as a particle can exist in a simultaneity between earth and the moon (example) based on observation. But if a scholar has not made an effort to learn the earliest languages and immerse themselves into the symbolic consciousness of those - there is little need to take the attempt of understanding consciousness seriously.
