Facing the Barrel of a Gun, Woman Holds Epoch Times Poster to Protest Hong Kong Police

In a stunning show of defiance, an unarmed Hong Kong protester held up a poster produced by The Epoch Times’ Hong Kong edition while gesturing at a police officer who had pointed a pistol towards her.
The Epoch Times has been unable to identify the woman, but understands that the police did not fire the weapon and that the protester safely left the protest scene on Dec. 22.
The poster contains a message that has become popular among Hong Kong protesters, reading “Heaven Will Destroy the CCP [The Chinese Communist Party],” in both Chinese and English. The slogan has spread to street corners, walls, and artworks in Hong Kong amid pro-democracy protests in recent months.
One protester previously explained the slogan’s meaning as “may God have mercy to break down the Communist Party.”
“We want the CCP [to] completely break down,” he said.

Saudi Arabia & Kuwait end dispute over shared oil fields, ‘won’t change’ OPEC commitments
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have ended a nearly five-year-long dispute over shared oil fields and have agreed to resume oil production from the divided neutral zone. They also stressed this would not change their OPEC commitments to crude oil production cuts.
About 300,000 barrels per day were reportedly being pumped from the area before the dispute halted production in early 2015. The divided zone, located between the two neighboring countries’ land borders, can produce up to half-a-million barrels per day.
The allied Gulf Arab nations signed the agreement in Kuwait City on Tuesday. Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman has spent the past few years trying to resolve the rare public spat between the kingdom and its Gulf neighbor, AP reports.

Having started on Monday, the US Army continues its war drills across the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area through Saturday with the goal of enhancing Army Special Forces skills by "operating in urban environments", Army Special Operations Command said in a statement.
Residents around Los Angeles may hear sounds associated with the field training exercise, including helicopters and weapon simulations, according to the statement.
"The local terrain and training facilities in Los Angeles provide the Army with unique locations and simulates urban environments the service members may encounter when deployed overseas," the Army told CBS.
Downtown Los Angeles residents were shocked Monday night when a fleet of Boeing A/MH-6M Little Bird and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters swooped in around them.

Around Dozen Soldiers Killed in Another Burkina Faso Attack - Reports
The small West African nation has been fighting Islamist groups linked to al-Qaeda and Daesh terrorist organizations since 2016.
On Wednesday, about a dozen Burkinabe servicemen were killed in the northern part of the country, AFP reported citing local security forces.
According to the sources, a military patrol was ambushed in Hallele in Burkina Faso's Soum province and "around a dozen soldiers were killed" as a result of the attack.
On Tuesday, the nation's President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré had declared two days of national mourning for the victims of the previous attack.
