If you indeed have the gift of prophesy, you know it because things you've seen or become of aware through The Sharing have come to pass in your awareness.
This gift is challenging because what you see doesn't have date markers...rarely, but usually not...the distant future and off world sight is even harder. Without discussing in some detail about the who, what, how, when, where...etc. The best I can do is tell you that like any gift or talent, use it and challenge yourself to get better at it. I know it's frustrating to see important things clearly sometimes and not know if it's an actual and actionable future or if it's a probability. The more local (geographic, cultural, technological) references you can identify then it gets easier to localize the event horizon and judge the prudence of action or unmasking for public safety. Unfortunately, as is all too common the sight doesn't provide enough specifics to act upon. This is at least the case with my experience. Lots of experience.
So, to sum up, practice trying to understand and record as much detail that will allow you to localize the event in time and space. Sometimes you will get clues after giving up on certain visions that beginning rapidly filling in puzzle pieces. When the puzzle is more complete, decision making becomes easier with respect to prudent courses of action or involving others. I know this is vague, but it's a vague business by definition.
Pray and ask for God's help and a dispensation of grace, because this is an area patrolled by the enemy and testing the spirits is challenging. God reveals, the enemy deceives. Be careful. I personally don't seek the sight, but don't shut if off when it comes and work to understand what I've seen and what if anything, I should or can do with it.
